How We Met
Neil and I met during his first week of medical school. I remember seeing him on stage at our white coat ceremony and I immediately turned to my friend sitting next to me and told her that I thought he was cute. I tried to play it off like it was nothing more than a cute stranger but inside I was going crazy. I was completely drawn to him. I had this overwhelming urge to talk to him or get him to notice me. I didn’t know who this man was or even his name, but I knew in that moment, he was going to be a huge part of my life. A few days later we were introduced while we were out at a mixer for students, we danced and got to know each other a little better. Our first date was when I was 100% sure that he was the man I was going to marry. We talked for 8 hours about anything and everything. I couldn’t get enough of his animated ways of telling stories and his deep voice. I remember just staring at him, completely mesmerized and in awe. I can truly say that because of Neil my life has been infinitely better.
how they asked
Neil and I have gone through so much especially because we were in a long distance relationship on and off (NJ-CA). I’m from California so when I see snow anywhere it’s the most magical thing, and a snowy day in New York is somehow even more perfect. Neil and I decided to go into the city so I can see it in the snow. He told that me we were going to get lunch with one of our friends and were meeting them at Central Park first. We made our way through the park admiring all the beauty. We walked through an area with a gorgeous path aligned with trees (known as the Literary Walk). Neil suddenly let go of my hands and started taking off his gloves. I asked him what he was doing because it was freezing; and that’s when he turned to me and got on one knee.
It was like time froze and I couldn’t speak. People around us were cheering and clapping. I was staring down at this man that I love and I couldn’t move or breathe. It was like a dream. Somewhere between the total shock I managed to say YES!!! I was suddenly engaged to my best friend and all of our plans for our future were finally going to go into motion. We walked around the park enjoying our time in our tiny little perfect bubble.
When we got home, as soon as I opened the door there were candles, balloons and flower petals all over the floor. They led to a little area with a sign that read “she said yes!” As I looked up, he had a little note saying “all the times I knew,” with pictures of us throughout that last 6 years.
