How We Met
In January of 2012, at Bethune Cookman University in biology class is when Dontell & Sharnel first met. Sharnel thought Dontell was cute but did not have the courage to speak to him. Sharnel slid in Dontell’s DMs to invite him to a study group. Sharnel asked Dontell to help her to learn an R&B song by Alicia Keys for a pageant she was in. After winning the pageant, they went to a party together. Dontell went for it and kissed Sharnel for the first time after the party. February 14, 2013, Dontell asked Sharnel to be his girlfriend and she said yes. In college, Sharnel was a cheerleader and Dontell was in the band they would travel to football games almost every weekend together. Sharnel graduated Bethune Cookman University December 2014 with a job offer in Chicago. This was all amazing but Dontell still had another year left in college. 2015 was a tough year for the couple. Long distance was something they were not used to.
Dontell decided it was best for them if they broke up. It was devastating for them both but they knew it was best because they needed to grow and mature individually. They still communicated often during their time apart and spent Valentine’s Day with each other. July 2016 Dontell asked Sharnel to be his girlfriend again. During this time Dontell was in Tampa and Sharnel was in New York City. A long distance relationship isn’t easy but it is worth it. Dontell is a technician for the ‘Turn It Up’ ice skating show at the Busch Gardens in Tampa. Sharnel was in the audience completely unaware of the grand finale. After the performance, Dontell appears on stage and asks Sharnel to join him. I really love you so much, he says to her. And the only way to cherish my love for you forever is to spend the rest of my life with you. The audience was definitely not quiet, as they cheered Dontell on when he got down on one knee. Sharnel Young, will you marry me? She said, Yes! https://www.facebook.com/BuschGardensTampaBay/videos/10155846139565239/
