How We Met
It was 2006, Seth was 16 and I was 15. One of my best friends had recently met a guy on a high school field trip. Once they got to talking, she realized his best friend might be perfect for me. We had talked a few times with our other friends around, but we had never met in person. We finally had a group date at the movies, I was quiet and shy and so was he. But after the movies we continued to talk. Texting all day at school (I know…horrible) and talking on the phone all night long. Our friends eventually separated but that didn’t keep us apart. We officially started dating on December 18, 2006. Seth was my first true love. We have many memories from our high school years together… homecoming, prom, date nights, baseball games, vacations, graduation. And it continued all throughout college…
how they asked
It was just like any normal day Saturday. I woke up and went to a volunteer project with my co-workers. Earlier that week my friend, Madison, had asked me to go see a show with her that night (Human Nature) and even though I knew I was going to be exhausted I decided to go. After volunteering that morning I had to head into work around 4 p.m. I had barely talked to Seth all day since I was volunteering that morning and then he went into work after I was done. But with our crazy schedules, it was a normal busy day for the both of us. I finished with work and headed to meet my friend at the show. Prior to the show, she asked what I was going to wear. Usually I go pretty casual for my Saturdays at work, but she insisted that we dress up and have a fun night out. Alright, alright. We had a great time at the show! After it was over we both headed home. Seth texted me and said his boss asked him to stay a bit longer so I took my sweet time coming home. I had no where to be and nothing to do. (oops!)
Once I came home I went in to talk to my parents and tell them all about the show. After a few minutes my dad asked if I wanted to see what they did to the backyard (they’ve been doing some remodeling). As soon as I walked outside the ENTIRE backyard was lit up with lights, a pathway of candles and rose petals covering the floor. At first I was confused, but then it hit me. This is it. This is the moment I’ve dreamed of for the past 8 years.
“Marry Me” was playing in the background and as I followed the pathway, trees adorned with photos of us and signs guiding the path.
At the end of the path, there was Seth. I couldn’t be more excited to see him standing there. I just wanted to run into his arms. At that moment on the evening of September 19th he asked me to spend the rest of his life with him and I couldn’t be more excited to say YES!
This was truly the most magical moment of my entire life. And to make things better, both of our families were watching from the balcony above and Madison, who took me to the show, was obviously in on the whole thing! After she left, she went to pick up my two best friends and bring them to my house. They had no idea what was going on and were told to be quiet as they entered the house and not to say a peep. (Side note: they thought they were showing up to a surprise party. Silly them!) They showed up right after he proposed and right as I walked into the house and turned the corner, my friends were there. I loved being able to share this special moment with our friends and family.
