How We Met
I met Kevin when we were both 14 and freshmen in high school. At first, I was nervous to talk to him, I would avoid him in the hallways or pretend I was sick and couldn’t hang out. Most of our communication was through text initially. When I finally got the courage to talk to him in person, we instantly became best friends. We did nearly everything together. We graduated high school and moved away to college together, adopted a dog together, moved into our first place together after college, and began our careers. We both knew undoubtedly that we are supposed to be together.
Instead of growing apart as most teenage couples do, we grew together – more in love every day through every stage of our lives. It’s hard for us to go a day without seeing each other. As a firefighter, he brings patients into the hospital where I work as a nurse and always finds a way to see me. He is everything I’m not but everything I’ve ever wanted and I’m so lucky I will never have to spend a day without my best friend.
How They Asked
8 years ago today, Kevin asked me to be his girlfriend. 5 years ago today, he gave me a promise ring and told me he’d marry me one day. Today, he asked me to be his wife, keeping every promise he’s ever made to me. The day was a complete surprise for me to celebrate our anniversary. We started with a couples massage, brunch, and then a day at the beach.
We went to dinner and decided to go for a walk on the beach at sunset. Walking on the beach, we came across a heart in the sand made with rose peddles and candles. In the center was a glass bottle, illuminated with string lights and a scrolled note inside. I opened the note that said “will you marry me?” and looked up to see him down on one knee.
We popped champagne and our dog came running out from the dunes with a sign around his neck that said: “my humans are getting married!” Kevin’s best friend flew across the country from California to Florida to film the proposal!
