How We Met
Joe and I met through friends, at a party, playing a party game, and of course, trash talking… I mean, flirting. We’ve been dating for 2 years and whether we’re staying home and playing Dungeons and Dragons or getting fancy to go to a wedding, everything is better when we’re together. He is my best friend, the love of my life and my rock.
how they asked
Our plan was to dock our boat at Davis Park, Fire Island to spend the night. We almost couldn’t find a slip but after driving around for about 30 minutes, the dock master was able to come through for us. As soon as we tied up, we got changed and headed to dinner at The Casino Bar and Restaurant.
He couldn’t have picked a more beautiful night to propose; the sky was an array of blues, pink and lavenders. The sun and moon could be visible simultaneously so of course I was easily convinced to take a walk on the beach. As we started walking along the water he told me he wanted to play a song. From his pocket, I heard, “Someone to Watch Over Me” by Ella Fitzgerald, (my absolute favorite song.) We started slow dancing and before I knew it, he twirled me once, twice, and down on one knee he went. Even though he was nervous and shaking, he asked me to marry him and I said, “Yes!”
Everyone on the restaurant/bar balcony cheered and to my surprise, it was our closest family and friends! We partied and danced all night long. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better proposal.
