Shannon and Gabe

How We Met

Gabe and I met up at college in Idaho, spring of 2017. We were assigned to plan activities together at our church. After one of the first activities, my roommate and I invited him over and we “interviewed” him and asked him a bunch of random questions.

We hit it off right away, and about a week later he invited me to a bonfire. I asked to bring along my friend, not realizing the signals, but she didn’t end up coming. We couldn’t stop talking at the bonfire and realized we had SO much in common. We both left that night completely smitten and I knew I’d found something special.

how they asked

I told Gabe a long time ago I just wanted the proposal to “capture the essence of us”. And he completely exceeded my expectations on that. I was staying with his family in Toronto for a couple weeks before we went back to school. On one of the first days, I asked what we would be doing and he was being a little vague, but I didn’t think much of it. We love going for picnics when we’re at school, and that morning he packed a picnic for us with all my favorite things, fancy cheese, bread and crackers, and grapes! He said we would also be going to a cool donut place (another one of my favorite things) to pick some donuts up for our picnic.

Donuts in hand, we walked to a park we had visited the year before. He asked me if I remembered the park, and he told me how he had lived in Toronto all his life and when we discovered the park the year before he thought it was so special because he was able to discover new things in his home with me. We ate our lunch, and afterward, he began to say so many sweet things I will remember for the rest of my life. He said my full name, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was such a special moment and I loved that it felt like we were the only two people in the entire park.
