How We Met
We both attended school at a State University in Upstate, NY. I am SO thankful that he decided to go to school 6 hours away from home, because I would have missed out on my Prince Charming. I had been in a long term relationship through the beginning of college and was single at the time we met. I was not looking for a relationship as I was focusing on school, graduating and what I was going to do after graduation. Both of us decided to get involved in greek like while attending school. His fraternity was new on campus and other organizations were just warming up to them. Scott is a very social individual and introduced himself to everyone during parties. Prior to spring break my senior year, I received a facebook message while packing to go home. It was from Scott asking if I wanted to hang out, I wasn’t sure I wanted to as I had just met this guy. But I went over to his fraternity house and we watched the Syracuse Basketball game that was on and talked for hours. We had so much in common and I felt like I had known him for years. We exchanged numbers and I spoke with him through the break and even came back to school a few days early to spend time with him. I couldn’t get enough of him! It was so natural that months into us “talking” I made him pick a date to make it official because we just became an item.
how they asked
Scott has always had something up his sleeve. But when we went to Long Island to visit his parents for a regular visit, I didn’t think anything of it. The day before leaving he told me that we were going to go for a “hike by the beach” in the morning. I threw on some leggings, a sweater and sneakers having no idea what was in store for me. A few of his friends came along, one even had a camera. But he takes photos all the time, its his thing so once again I didn’t think twice about it. While walking down by the beach, I sprained my ankle and we had to stop a few times as I hobbled my way down to the cliff looking over the beach. Once we got down to the cliff, Scott walked me closer to the edge and wrapped his arms around me saying, ” I love you so much and always will.” I looked at him a little funny because he tells me he loves me all the time, but I was wondering why he said ” I always will.” He then began to turn and grabbed my hand while doing this turn on one knee to the ground while grabbing something from his pocket. I instantly began to cry and said, “You are NOT!” He repeated himself and stated, ” I love you so much and always will, I want to be with you for the rest of my life.”
He continued to babble something but its all a blur. He opened the box and showed me an engagement ring and wedding band. Scott stood up and told me that the engagement ring is his grandmothers passed down. I told him that I couldn’t wear something so valuable and he stated that it was exactly what I deserved. He then told me that the band is his GREAT GRANDMOTHER’S ring. I couldn’t bring myself to explain how amazing I felt. This whole time, his friend was standing behind us documenting the whole thing. I had told him once before, years ago that when he finally asked me I wanted photo documentation to show my exact reaction and he listened! It was absolutely amazing to have been given something so valuable by someone I had known I was going to marry in the first months of hanging out with him.
