Amanda and Scott
How We Met
Scott and I met two years ago online while he was deployed overseas. We had spent several weeks talking and getting to know each other before we finally settled on a first date. It was an all day event where we explored some local spots that I hadn’t been to before, enjoyed a delicious dinner, and even visited an arcade where he showed off his air hockey skills and I beat him at ski ball! From the moment we started talking Scott has made me laugh, challenged me to think deeply, and always encouraged me to seek adventure wherever I go. He captured my heart on our very first date, and because of him my life is filled with more laughter, imagination, and unique views on the world. I am forever grateful that we both took a chance on each other and that one message was the start to the greatest adventure of my life.
how they asked
Scott and I were visiting his parents in Southwest Missouri for Christmas. On Tuesday, December 27, Scott woke me up at 6 AM and told me that today would be a great day to watch a sunrise together. His parents live on 30 acres of gorgeous countryside that really provides some amazing views. While sipping warm coffee and bundling up, we were discussing where the best place would be to watch the sunrise. Scott’s dad excused himself because their driveway alarm had gone off and he had thought it was a neighbor stopping by. Around 7 AM, I was getting anxious out of fear that we would miss the best parts of the sunrise.
Scott and his mom both agreed that we should head outside to watch. Gary, Scott’s dad, came in and said that a man with a hot air balloon just had a cancellation in the area and was inquiring if anyone would be interested in going up because this would be the pilots only good day to go up for the next few weeks.
I’m certain the surprised look on my face was priceless! “Is this a trick?” I asked, while wondering how great my luck was that this opportunity was presenting itself. “No, it isn’t a trick. He’s waiting outside,” Gary said. At that point, I couldn’t contain my excitement anymore…to heck with it, of COURSE I would ride in a hot air balloon! What are we waiting for?! Let’s go!! Opportunities like this don’t come around often, and this is pure luck!!! Scott, Gary, and Rodney the balloon pilot, worked to get the balloon set up and ready for take off. I couldn’t help but to comment on how crazy this whole thing was! What are the odds? After much anticipation, the balloon was hot and ready! We had our safety briefing and discussed the chase vehicle plans, we waste ready for lift off! Rising into the air with the love of my life next to me is a feeling that is indescribable. The sun was shining, the sky was a beautiful shade of blue, and the views were breathtaking.
Scott asked the pilot to take a photo of us while I was pointing to something in the distance. When I turned around, Scott had the ring box open with a gorgeous ring inside. He asked me to marry him while we were 1000 feet off the ground, to which I of course said “YES!”
And then followed up with, “I can’t believe you had this all planned! I was completely convinced that I was incredibly lucky!” Which I am, to be marrying the man of my dreams. Laura and Gary, Scott’s parents, along with his sister Kristin, and brother Kevin, joined us on the ground for a small celebration and pictures. It was truly a dream come true! I’m so thankful to have such an adventure seeking man by my side who is always willing to make the items on my bucket list come to life on a scale bigger and better than I could ever imagine.
