Savannah and Justen
How We Met
Justen and I met in middle school. I was 14 years old and we had the same drama class. We were friends for about 4 months before he told me that I was the love of his life. I actually still have the first ever Valentines Day card he gave me which read “Look I’m pretty sure you already know that I like you. But it’s like every day I’m with you, I grow to like you even more. And the first day I met you, to me, it felt like love at first sight”. He wrote than when he was 13 years old. It obviously was love at first sight because here we are now!
how they asked
I was in New York City for a dance workshop, and was going to be there for 16 days so I was going to miss Justen so much! On New Years Eve at around 1pm, I walked out of the building where the dance workshop was held and he was standing there smiling in the freezing cold with a bouquet of roses. I was so surprised and happy to see him! I’m going to say ahead of time that I was clueless the entire time because it’s in his nature to be romantic and surprise me, so I just thought this was an ordinary romantic surprise of his. After he picked me up, we took the subway into Tribeca where he surprised me again with a night at the Greenwich Hotel. It’s an adorable chic hotel where every room is designed differently. It fit perfectly with my personality. He had made reservations for that evening at the restaurant next door called Locanda Verde. It was an amazing night and the food was spectacular. While the night was happening, I was completely clueless as to what was happening, but the entire hotel and restaurant staff knew everything! I look back and think jeez! How did I not notice a thing?! We finished dinner and walked back to the room. When I opened the door, there were rose petals all over the floor, roses on the table, candles everywhere, and champagne. I walked in still unaware as to what was happening. He then started “the speech” telling me how important I was to him etc. I was still completely clueless thinking he was just being romantic. I then turned around to him on one knee before me and out came the words “Savannah Elizabeth Friend, will you marry me?” I immediately started bawling my eyes out and was crying so hard I could barely say yes! We then kissed, popped the champagne and waited for the ball to drop at midnight. It was the most surreal, intimate and romantic night of my life. It was exactly the way I dreamed it of being. Just the two of us. We then spent the rest of the trip exploring the city. And that’s how our story begins!
