How We Met
Sarah and I had been dating for four years before I listened to Beyonce’s advice and put a ring on it. I’d like to say we were volunteering at a local youth organization when we met but instead it happened at a local club where she was putting out the vibes. Once I realized she was looking at me and not the guy behind me, I approached for the introduction. She’s been my best friend ever since.
how they asked
For the proposal, I wanted it be something different and totally unique. Indianapolis is the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates Triple-A team, the Indianapolis Indians. They have a beautiful ball park in the heart of downtown Indy and I am fortunate to know the head groundskeeper of the field. Behind the scenes I coordinated with him to set up a proposal on a night the team did not have a home game so we could have the park to ourselves. The night of the proposal I told Sarah I wanted to swing by the park to pick up a shirt, but in reality she had no idea that I had secretly been planning for close friends and family to be waiting inside the home dugout.
As we made our way onto the field, it was an amazing moment to see Sarah’s face light up when she saw all the people close to us. At that moment, she also knew what was about to go down. My stomach was in knots (not from the burrito I had for lunch either) as I got down on one knee right behind home plate. I never will forget the look on her face and the feeling she gave me when she said ‘Yes.’ Moments later, a local musician I previously arranged to be there walked out and gave us an acoustic performance of John Mayer’s “XO.” Slow dancing with my beautiful fiance surrounded by the closest people in our life is a moment I will cherish forever. I got to hear her say ‘Yes’ on June 10th, 2015 and I can’t wait to hear her say ‘I do’ in October 1st, 2016. More than my fiance and future wife, she is also my best friend. Cheers to what is next!
