How We Met
It all started in 2010 when Bruno and I first began talking on Facebook. We both grew up in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ, we knew the same people, were in the same places on multiple occasions, but never officially met. One night/day on Facebook while I was vacationing with my family in Portugal (5 hours ahead of US time) I noticed a post on his timeline about how he couldn’t sleep. I was already awake and on Portugal time so I gave it a shot and commented on his post. After talking for the 3 weeks while I was away I got off of the plane and went on our first date, July 2010. 7 years later I am lucky to be in luck with my best friend. Who knew two kids who grew up in the same neighborhood (even were in the same preschool class in 1995) would end up falling in love all these years later.
how they asked
On January 17, 2018 Bruno and I closed on our very first home and I was convinced I was getting engaged that day (boy was I wrong). Two days later, January 19, 2018, on a Friday night we decided to take our parents and siblings out to dinner as a “thank you” for all of their support during the house hunting process. After the dinner, Bruno insisted on starting to move some of the things we bought into the new house in the middle of the night. I wanted nothing more but to go home after a long day/night but he insisted. Little did I know a surprise was waiting for me at our new home. While we went to grab a few things from Bruno’s parents’ house, our families and closest friends rushed over to the house to hide and wait for us. My two best friends set up huge balloons in our living room that spelled out “Will You Marry Me”. Floating around the room were balloons with photos of Bruno and me throughout the years which made the set up beautiful.
As we were on our way to our new home our families and friends waiting patiently as Bruno and I got stuck in a ton of traffic on the way. When we pulled up to the house he opened the door and covered my eyes. I was so confused and worried about leaving our belongings outside but he insisted we go to the living room first. Of course, I was questioning what was going on every step we took. As he lead me up the stairs into the living room Ed Sheeran’s song perfect began to radiate through the house.
At this point, I knew what was going on and tears began to flow down my face. Bruno was so nervous he forgot to turn on the lights and began getting down on one knee. My best friend quickly turned on the lights and I saw the most beautiful proposal set up I could have ever imagined. Bruno was down on one knee asking the most important question with the loving support of my family and friends surrounding us. OF COURSE, I said YES!!! This moment was one of the happiest of our life and we cannot wait to begin our new chapter as Husband and Wife on 04/27/2019.
