How We Met
We met through friends completely by chance at a party. I didn’t think much of him then… but he texted me the next day and a few hang outs and phone calls later, we completely hit it off. And well, the rest is as they say, history.
how they asked
It started out like any ordinary Sunday… I woke up and had breakfast with my parents. We caught up on our favorite TV show and hung out for a bit. I received a text from my now fiance, Zeshawn, telling me that he was going to drop his dad off at the airport later that day. Shortly after, I started getting ready for my day. A friend of mine who is a professional photographer, had asked me if I could help her out with her portfolio. She told me the theme was elegance and handed me a gown to wear. I got ready and thought nothing more of it. Us and a few other friends who were also supposedly part of the photoshoot, headed to DC. We were driving out to a spot known as the Spanish Steps where I would be the first to model. As we got closer to the steps, my photographer friend told me to take the lead so she could get some shots in of me walking. As I got to the railing of the steps, I began to see the edges of huge golden balloons on the steps. I quickly turned around and told my friend we have to go somewhere else because it looked like someone’s proposal was happening. She insisted I keep walking. I was so confused. As I got the top of the steps, a videographer was there filming me and the balloons came into full sight. They spelt out “will you marry me.” I remembered that Zeshawn had told me he was at the airport, so I still assumed I had walked in on someone else’s proposal and was feeling quite embarrassed. However, I quickly realized that all the people holding and surrounding the balloons were my friends. Soon after, I heard someone playing the guitar from the corner. I recognized the song. It was one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite movies growing up as a kid. This was MY proposal after all. I was so overcome with emotion as my friends parted the balloons making way for me to walk down the steps. Then Zeshawn came up the steps to meet me and held my hand to walk me down the final few. He whispered “I never had to to go to the airport.” I laughed and continued walking with him hand-in-hand feeling overwhelmed. A few friends lit up sparklers as we passed them and he went down on one knee. He told me that I’ve made him the happiest man and that he couldn’t see himself spending the rest of his life with anyone else but me. He then opened the ring box and asked me if I would marry him. I said yes (of course). I had been waiting for this day for so long. He’s my best friend, my confidant and my other half. He understands me in ways that no one else ever could. Whenever I picture my future, it’s with him no doubt. He’s absolutely perfect for me and how he proposed was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. He never ceases to take my breath away and I’m so excited to plan our future together.
