How We Met
Matt and I met on Tinder in November 2018. Matt was new to Bowling Green, he moved here to pursue his Masters. I had moved to BG for my undergrad and had been in town for 7 years.
We decided to brunch at one of my favorite places as our first date. Immediately we clicked didn’t want the date to stop there. Next stop was a small coffee shop/book store in town, we talked for hours, played chess (played is used as a loose term since we were googling the directions as we went) and took a walk around town to show him some of my favorite places.
Quickly I knew that Matt was going to be a special person in my life. He is kinder than any man I know and cares for me from the bottom of his heart.
We love to check out different book stores in the areas we are traveling. Some of my favorite memories with Matt have happened while browsing book stores. During a quick day trip, we decided to stop by a store and play a game. Our goal was to spend 15 minutes browsing for the perfect book for the other person. This was early in our relationship so it was really cool to think of everything we know about each other and pick that perfect book.
Matt finally asked me to be his girlfriend at the Zoo Lights, since he knows I love elephants. He even had some Dove Chocolate (my favorite candy) in his pocket for when I said yes!
How They Asked
Matt and I were talking on my way home from work when he said: “Hey will you come to campus really quickly”. I said sure not thinking too much of it, he said he would tell me where to go when I parked.
After parking, he said to meet him at the big block BGSU letters that are in the middle of campus. When I got close enough I could see Matt standing there dressed up with flowers sitting on the letters and something in his hands.
I walked closer to where he was standing and he asked me to join him up by the letters. Matt gave a wonderful speech about choosing the location because BGSU brought us together and without it we would never have found each other. After telling me how much he loved me he dropped to one knee turned around an amazing book fold that read “Marry Me?” And he asked me to marry him!!
After saying “YES!!”, many hugs and tears, Matt wanted to tell me one of the most special parts about his beautiful proposal. Matt knew books are a huge part of our life together and we are at a point where he is applying to pursue his Ph.D. and I am starting a new job. He wanted to work into the proposal of how we are “Ending one chapter and starting a new one”!
He worked with my mom to make the book he used to propose!! So my new beautiful keep sake and a huge part of this special day was handmade by my mom!
I am so lucky to have such a thoughtful, caring and romantic guy to call my FIANCÉ!!!
