Sara and Jeffrey
How We Met: Jeffrey and I met through a mutual friend. We were both working a Halloween event and he ended up holding onto my car keys for me for the night. I remember thinking he was cute but was into someone else (gasp!) at the time. A few months later, I found myself face to face with the cute bartender again.
Once we put the pieces together on how we knew each other, I would usually go to him for my drinks when I was there for our standard girls night. Fast forward a year or so to a night I had the courage (thanks to some adult beverages) to ask the cute bartender, “Are you going to ask me out on a date or what?” He seemed a bit taken back at first, but quickly replied by asking if he could take me out the following week. And the rest, as they say, is history!
how they asked: Two weeks after I graduated from an accelerated nursing program, Jeffrey and I left for Maui. I couldn’t wait to relax and spend some much needed, quality time with my best friend. Leading up to our vacation my girlfriends kept pestering me on whether or not I thought Jeff would propose in Maui and the truth is, I really didn’t think he was going to!
I thought I would have a gut feeling about it, which I wasn’t getting. Little did I know, not only was Jeff planning on proposing in Maui, the poor guy had to change the proposal two times due to weather. Six days into our vacation, Jeff planned the perfect proposal; and it started with a dinner reservation at a nice Italian restaurant where we were staying. He was acting a little anxious before dinner, but nothing out of the ordinary when he’s waiting for me to get ready (hah).
When we arrived, the hostess lead us to a table front and center of the restaurant, overlooking a coy pond with the most beautiful view of the Maui sunset. A bottle of wine entitled, “First Date”, was waiting for us. The manager came over and read the meaning behind the name of the wine and I got a little emotional. I was in the most magical place, making memories with the person I love the most. After we ordered our salads, Jeffrey excused himself from the table. It was then I noticed a Go-Pro at the table next to us, but knowing little about them at the time, I thought nothing of it.
When Jeff came back, he grabbed my hand and told me how much he loved me and couldn’t imagine growing old with anyone else. He kept talking but I’m pretty sure I blacked out once it clicked that the most amazing moment of my life was about to happen. Jeffrey then lead me around the table, got down on one knee and changed my life forever.
After several kisses and “Oh my Gods”, Jeff yelled, “She said yes!” The whole place erupted with clapping and cheers; it was perfect. After we made a few phone calls to our family, the restaurant.
Thankfully, I am able to relive this night whenever I want thanks to my fiancé. He passed his phone along to the hostess when he excused himself from the table, who took pictures and videos for us. He also had the manager set up the Go-Pro, which recorded our evening from the minute we sat down at the table.
Back at home, the infamous bottle from our table is on our dresser, reminding me that I am the luckiest girl in the world… “The start of something special, your heart pounds; the spark of new romance. You never know unless you go on that first date.”
