Katilyn and I met back in high school through mutual friends and always had a little crush on each other although we never dated. Years later we randomly saw each other out one night and caught back up. Katilyn worked across the street from my gym so I would stop in after working out or after a softball game and flirt with her. I finally asked her out on a date to a seafood restaurant in which she ordered chicken…it was the cheapest thing on the menu and she was nervous!
I planned the proposal around our family’s annual vacation to Sanibel Island, because that was always a place full of fun memories and a place that I thought would be perfect. It was easy to have all of our friends and family around before and after the proposal without her being suspicious of why everyone was together. We hung out at the pool all day and then went down to the beach for family photos. When it was time for Katilyn and I to take a few photos I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She actually dropped to her knees as well to say yes. We then went to dinner where all of our friends and family were waiting to celebrate with us.
