How We Met
Matt and I met while we were both college students at the University of Delaware. The first time we saw each other was at a concert and we both remember being curious about who the other was! We ended up meeting through a friend a year later and we became best friends quickly. On Valentine’s Day in our junior year, he gave me a beautifully boxed cupcake and took me to dinner. We started dating shortly after that! After graduation, we both moved home and did a long distance from Virginia to New Hampshire, for an entire year. We talked every single day and grew even closer while we were apart. I just knew at that point he was going to be my husband. Eventually, he moved to my area up north and we moved in together. We grew together and became even closer than we imagined.
We adopted our beloved dog and really felt like a family! About three years ago I got very ill. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that prevented me from working and it limited me from doing the things I always used to do. Matt never left my side and has continued to support me in more ways than one. He works so hard to be able to provide a wonderful life for us, all while cooking and cleaning if I am too sick to help. He is more than I could ever ask for. We have grown as a couple and team in so many ways, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. He makes me laugh, he is supportive, hardworking and the sweetest person I have ever met. Eight years later and he still gives me butterflies when I look at him!
How They Asked
Matt and I had plans to go look at the beautiful foliage in New Hampshire one weekend in October. He claimed that while we were up there we were going to meet some friends at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, NH. I was very excited to have an entire day exploring and leaf-peeping because Fall is my favorite season! The entire day he was extremely nervous and I kept wondering if he felt alright. We pulled in to the hotel driveway and I was immediately in love with the views. The resort looked over Mount Washington mountain and beautiful rolling hills with gold and red leaves.
He led me to the back part of the hotel, directly in front of Mount Washington, and took me on a bridge. He immediately started tearing up and told me he had a question to ask. I knew at that point and started crying as well! He knelt down and it was all such a blur. I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to become engaged to my best friend. He had hired a wonderful photographer to take our picture and capture the entire moment! After the proposal, the photographer stayed with us and took many engagement photos, which are so special to us.
