How We Met
Justin and I met back in April of 2013 at a college activities conference in Hershey, PA. He was there with the Mike McKay Band, while I was there with the student activities group from my school. As soon as we walked in, Justin caught my eye and every time we passed one another, we’d smile and I hoped he would come say hello. Later that day, he finally got the nerve to come over with a Mike McKay Band cd and said “I like your glasses” and I swear in that moment, seeing his smile and listening to him speak, I knew I couldn’t leave without getting to know him. After a night of our friends doing everything they could to get us to sit next to and talk to each other, a twitter message thread that turned into text messages and a call to my mom telling her I think I found the boy i’ll marry, I left the conference and couldn’t wait to text him to tell him I was glad we met. We spent that summer learning about each other and finally on September 19th, 2013, we met again for the first time since the conference and the rest is history.
how they asked
Justin and I were about to celebrate our four year anniversary on Friday, September 22, 2017. I had planned for us to go to the brewery we are getting married at for dinner, and then bowling on our anniversary, and Saturday he wanted to go to Arrington Vineyards. I was CONVINCED he would propose on Saturday so I picked out the perfect outfit and sat at work on Friday hoping the day would fly by so we could finally start our celebrations. Around 11 am Friday morning, Justin texted me to tell me that he completely forgot he made reservations for us at a restaurant on the west end. I, being the planner I am, was disappointed he was changing the plans so last minute to such a fancy place but told him if that’s what he wanted to do, we’d go there. We don’t ever go anywhere fancy, and I still don’t know how this didn’t completely ruin the surprise, but I was so convinced it was happening Saturday, and I knew he would never propose in a restaurant so I thought nothing of it. After work, I went home and got ready for our 6:30 reservations, but Justin was running late and I was becoming a little impatient (it was already 6:00 and we needed to find somewhere to park because the place is located on a busy street). After he paced back and forth for 15 minutes searching for his sunglasses, we finally got in the car and headed to the restaurant. About a block away, he says “you know what, I’d rather eat at Fat Bottom, wouldn’t you?” (Fat Bottom is the brewery I originally wanted to go to) and turns up a road leading to Love Circle, a place in Nashville that overlooks the cities skyline.
At that moment, I was so confused that I said “are you serious” but then it hit me, I knew that the proposal I thought would happen Saturday, was happening in just a few moments. We pulled over, got out of the car, and walked up the stairs and over to a blanket surrounded by candles and the beautiful city. After a few “I love you’s” and tears, he held my hands and asked me the easiest question I’ve ever been asked – if i would marry him. I said yes, we kissed and out popped his amazing coworkers that helped him all week in planning and setting everything up for us to have a perfect moment. Afterward, we had a beautiful dinner, then celebrated with our amazing friends. I couldn’t have asked for a better night or man to spend my life with!
