How We Met
Joshua and I officially met back in 2009. I was a sophomore in high school and he was a junior. We attended different high schools, but we had many mutual friends. We had crossed each other’s paths in the past, but never realized it. Finally, after a Friday night football game that I attended at his high school, we caught each other’s eye. I can perfectly describe the cologne he had on, and he can tell you the outfit I was wearing down to my shoes. That night we became friends on MySpace (back when it was still the hit site). He commented on one of my pictures, and I decided to take it a step further and message him. From there, we exchanged numbers and started texting every single day. From then on, We were inseparable.
how they asked
Everything about this proposal was perfectly planned and coordinated. I was scheduled to work all weekend on our 7 year anniversary weekend (or so I thought). I woke up to go to work on Saturday and as I’m getting ready my manager called me and told me I didn’t need to come in that weekend. Simultaneously, my mom came into my room and handed me a card that Joshua had left for me. This card read to get ready, pack an over night bag and wait for my “driver” to come pick me up.
Apparently, we’re going on some sort of mini vacation! Promptly, my driver came to pick me up and it was my best friend Bobbie! This was such a nice surprise! As I got into her car she handed me a second card that had a nail salon gift certificate in it, saying an appointment had been made and we were taking a pit stop to get our nails done. At the salon, we “ran into his mom” where she handed me the next card. This card had money in it and I was told to go to the mall and buy a new outfit and shoes. As we walked into the mall, I went straight to my favorite store.
I was trying dresses on and when I came out, I “ran into” my mom and sister-in-law. The four of us spent the next hour shopping and picking out the perfect outfit. At the end of this shopping trip my mom handed me another card with money to buy lunch, and the next clue to take a long drive and check into the hotel. As we drove down to San Diego, I had no idea what hotel we were going to. We pulled up to a beautiful hotel, the Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa, and I walked into the lobby and they knew who I was as they handed me another card. This card contained my room key and told me to go get ready with my new outfit and open the next card (that was already in the room) at 4:25. I got to my room, got all ready, and waited to open the next card.
As I opened it, it said I would have the best escort take me to the garden where I would finally meet up with Joshua. At 4:25, a knock at the door happened and I opened it and IT WAS MY DAD! I immediately started crying. Then I saw the photographer (I recognized her because she shot my brothers wedding) and I got so nervous because I had a feeling of what was about to happen. My dad walked me through the garden, and took me to the edge where he hugged me and told me to go meet Joshua.
I turned to walk towards Joshua and he was standing under a beautifully lit gazebo with flower petals and lights.
I walked up and (still crying) asked what all of this was. He went straight for it and dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him!!!!! (He said he had planned to say more but my crying threw him off and said he almost started to cry).
Crying almost hysterically, I said YES!! We hugged and kissed and then he turned me to look in another direction and ALL of my family and his family were there walking towards us. I was so happy to have all of our family be a part of this day! We took photos with our awesome photographer and all cried together. I couldn’t stop staring at my ring, it was everything I ever wanted and more. After the proposal, Joshua had planned a nice dinner for all of us to go to. We ate and had a good time together, it was truly the best day of my life.
