How We Met
Fanye and I met serving at church last November. We had attended the same church for almost two years, but had never crossed paths. He was training me to be a serve team leader and I honestly had no clue he was interested, but I went home and told my roommates that I made a new friend and was excited to get to know him more. I decided to add him on Facebook that next week because, why not?! We talked about our mutual friends and our deep love for tacos. That next Sunday he asked me out and the rest is history!
how they asked
I knew the proposal was coming, but he wanted it to be a surprise so I didn’t know anything and my roommates who helped plan everything were really good at keeping secrets. I had been hoping he would propose before we left for vacation in Dubai, but had started to give up hopes when there were only a few days left.
On Sunday, May 20th, I attended church like usual and Fanye was serving. I knew I would have to wait around for him to finish cleaning up and was hoping that was when he would propose. I hung out with my friends while he finished serving and we decided on a new brunch spot for that afternoon. Everyone was acting like usual so I was starting to think it wasn’t going to happen. As we left and headed to brunch my hopes of it happening fell dim.
I wanted him to choose a meaningful place and I had prayed that morning that he would propose at church, but as we drove away I gave up. I was probably not the most fun co-pilot because I was upset and trying to pretend like I was fine. When we showed up to brunch he realized he had “left his phone” with the walky-talkies so we went back. As we walked up I saw a beautiful display including a sunflower, which has always been a reminder to me that God is good, always. I wish I could remember what all he said but I was wrapped up in the moment that all I remember is him trying to put the ring on my shaking hand and then seeing my best friends running with my family on facetime to celebrate the engagement!
This picture is my all time favorite. I had always wanted my family to mirror the diversity in the Kingdom of God, but I never knew He would provide this incredible man as the answer to my prayers!
