How We Met
In 2010, Dominique transferred to my high school when were 18. It was our senior year and by that point, you know everyone in your graduating class. I remember wondering who he was because I had never seen him before.
Once we graduated we connected on social media and stayed in touch. We didn’t officially meet in person until a few years later when we happened to be on the same train heading to classes in New York City.
How They Asked
Dominique is a music producer and this month one of his songs, “Life” – by Lute was released. He told me that there was going to be a listening party at a rooftop in NYC. Naturally, I was excited but was also nervous. I didn’t want to be overdressed and I wasn’t sure what the atmosphere was going to be like.
No matter what I was excited to celebrate my boyfriend’s accomplishments. We headed up to the rooftop and I peeked out the window and I didn’t see anyone there. I thought to myself ‘Great. We’re the first ones here.’
When I opened the door I thought it was odd that there were roses on the ground for a listening party. Then I saw a rose lined pathway and a banner that said, “will you marry me?”
