How We Met: Christopher and I had a our first bible class together when I was a freshman in high school and he was a sophomore. I was a shy little freshman that was just trying to get through my first year of high school and he was a shy sophomore who had such a kind heart. I can say this without even have spoken a word to him because all the classes at our school were competing in a canned food drive and the class that donated the most got a pizza party.
Christopher brought in more than 300 cans and won the pizza party for our class and was able to donate all those cans to the less fortunate. I remember thinking wow this guy is so sweet. I really need to meet him one day. You could tell he didn’t do all that for the pizza party, but he did it so that he could help those that were less fortunate then him. I was amazed by his kindness but as the class ended I never got to talk to him and never saw him again.
Then my sophomore year rolls around and I am finally introduced to Christopher by two close friends. Christopher and I started to hang out a little bit with our friends going bowling and such. Christopher was a baseball player on our high schools team, so I would go with friends to games and watch him play and we would text a little bit.
Nothing much really happened between us, but we were definitely growing closer as friends and then comes summer one of the busiest times of the year for me as I travel to California every summer to visit family for at least a month. So one day right before I was leaving for California Christopher and I meet up at the park behind our houses to go for a walk and he being so sweet tells me he really likes me and wants me to be his girlfriend.
I told him that I would love to, but since I was going to be gone for a while it would be really hard on us and I told him lets wait till I get back, and see where our relationship goes from there. So finally, I get back from vacation and he is still interested and wants to see me the day I get back. I had so much going on in my life at the time and tried to use that as an excuse to not be his girlfriend, but Christopher knew what he wanted and that was me.
He continued to ask me out, bake me cookies, and bring me flowers. I knew he wasn’t going to go away and right now I am forever grateful that he never gave up on me. We’ve now been dating for almost five years and he’s not only my best friend, but he’s my hero and my cheerleader for life. I’ve found not only the love of my life, but the best man a girl could ask for. I am forever grateful to our friends that introduced us and for his persistent personality for never giving up on me.
how they asked: Christopher and I were on vacation with his family on Seabrook Island in South Carolina for a couple days. We had spent a day on the beach reading books, throwing the tennis ball in the water, and relaxing all day. That night we were planning on going out to dinner with his parents, his cousins, and his uncle and aunt just like we do anytime we go down to South Carolina.
Earlier that day his parents told us that they were going to leave the beach early because they had to go help his aunt and uncle pick out tile for the condo they are renovating on Kiawah Island right next to where we were staying. I didn’t think anything of it and all I knew is that we were meeting them for dinner later that night. Christopher and I spent a few more hours on the beach then went back to the condo to get ready for dinner.
As we were walking back he told me that his parents were going to be longer than expected so we had some time to go walk on the beach before dinner. I was fine with that and thought it would be nice to just waste some time. Little did I know that I was going to this beach to have my amazing boyfriend ask me to be his wife. We start walking down the beach and ran into a glass bottle with a rolled up piece of paper in it and a pink rose sitting on top of it. He takes out the letter and asks me to read it.
As I start to read it I cannot believe my eyes. Everything he said was beyond sweet and was what every girl wants to read from the man of their dreams. Then he takes my hand and tells me that we have to keep walking. About fifty feet from where we were standing was a huge heart drawn in the sand outlined in sea shells and a bouquet of pink roses sitting in the middle. I was in shock.
Of course at this time I was already crying and smiling from ear to ear. Christopher told me how much he loved me and that he was going to love me for the rest of his life till his final breath then he got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. Of course I said yes! I was so excited I was crying, laughing, and I couldn’t stop smiling.
At one point Christopher said he was trying to kiss me, but I was crying too much that he couldn’t! Then from behind the bushes comes his family and my family! I was shocked about that because as far as I knew my parents were four hours away at home working in the yard. I had no idea that they were making the trip all the way down to the beach to be there for us.
Also, his parents were not picking out tile samples with his aunt and uncle they had been at the beach preparing for this wonderful moment for hours upon hours. I was beyond excited, we finished off the night on the beach with the sunset behind us popping the bubbly and taking pictures!
