How We Met
Chris and I met in March of 2009. I had recently moved to the Toronto area for school and he sent me a cute message on Plenty of Fish. We had our first date the night before his 20th birthday. We hit it off but after the date, we only texted and called each other as I ended up moving home for a few months in between semesters. When I finally had an exact date of when I would be back in the city he jumped on the opportunity to plan a date. He took me out mini-putting and after we went for coffee and walked around Lakeshore so he could prove to me that there were swans in the area. That was it! We shared our first kiss there and the rest is quite honestly… history! We have been inseparable ever since. I don’t think we’ve spent more than a week apart since that first real date!
how they asked
I am from Prince Edward County, which is a small inlet on the edge of Lake Ontario surrounded by beaches and beautiful views. For the longest time I had told him it was my dream to get engaged at the Wellington beach lighthouse.
It was previously owned by my grandfather so it has some family history. Not to mention, the view is breathtaking and it has such a peaceful vibe. Every time I mentioned it to him, he would jokingly say ‘No, I can’t do it there— you’ll know!’ So I was completely oblivious to what was about to happen. We went to visit my parents for the weekend and that morning he went with my dad for a walk and asked him for his blessing. We grabbed some lunch and headed out to the beach. The following Monday would have marked our 8 year anniversary so I had an idea that it would happen soon but not that day and not in the most beautiful place!
When he reached into his jacket pocket and started telling me how special our relationship was and how much he loved me I still really didn’t have a clue what was going on! Once he had the ring box opened I couldn’t stop crying! He definitely surprised me!
After he proposed a woman and her two children walked up and I asked her to take a photo of us, which she gladly did! It was the perfect location!
