Samantha and Ben
How We Met
In 2012, I moved to Los Angeles and started working at a production company. On my first day I met Ben and he introduced himself. I immediately noticed his New Zealand accent (which he was showing off) and exclaimed “What are you?”
Luckily my east coast charm didn’t scare him off and we started dating that November. When his visa expired we had a teary goodbye at the airport and we were apart for 7 long months while Ben worked and saved to get back to America and to me.
As soon as he returned, we made up for lost time and treated every day like an adventure, camera in hand traveling as much as possible.
how they asked
Thanksgiving 2017 marked our 5 year anniversary…
I plan every trip down to the last detail and this one was no exception. Our first stop was in Joshua Tree National Park. It began as all of our trips begin, with us finding a pretty spot and setting up the tripod for a cool shot for our vlog.
We found a particularly quiet area and I climbed into frame and started to ham it up in front of the camera.
He nonchalantly gestured for me to look a bird and when I turned around he dropped to one knee. When I turned back around it took me a second to realize what was happening. I was overwhelmed with shock and happiness. I fell to my knees and couldn’t wait to kiss him. Then I said yes.
He was so nervous to propose that he couldn’t wait any longer than the first stop of our trip. I’m so happy that he did because I love every second of being engaged to him. We spent the next 4 days in absolute bliss exploring the beauty of Arizona and Utah. We hiked to the delicate arch, kayaked through antelope canyon and watched the sun set over the grand canyon.
5 days, 4 national parks, 3 states, 2 weirdos in love and 1 easy answer: Yes.
