Sam and Michael

How We Met

Mike and I met at work! I was the receptionist at a physical therapy clinic and he was a physical therapy tech! I had been working at this physical therapy clinic for only about 2 weeks when he had his first day there. I thought he was so cute and was crushing on him for a few weeks. I told one of my coworkers at the time that I thought he was super cute and she decided to help me flirt with him a little to see how he’d respond. Well after a couple of weeks of that I decided that I wanted to make the first move! Mike was shy at first so I didn’t want to wait around to see if he would make a move and just wanted to see who he was when he wasn’t at work. Believe it or not, I actually sent him a message through Snapchat! We just started talking and eventually started texting. Since we worked in the same office, we would see each other almost every day and would just act all shy and smile around one another. It was a little awkward but we didn’t make it very public at work and just were having fun talking. Well eventually we set up the first date and it was a movie date! I wanted to see the movie Suicide Squad and even though he had already seen it, he agreed to come with me and see it again! (This was a really good sign for me in the beginning so I knew he was a super nice guy.) He came over and walked up to my door, (I was living in an apartment on the third floor so I loved how he came all the way up the stairs, another good first date impression), then we went to the movie! We continued to go on movie and dinner dates after that and one of our first few dates we sat in his car for over 3 hours just talking about music and movies and some of our favorite things! Being able to talk freely with him and have him listen so intently to what I was saying was so comforting and reassuring to me. He was always so courteous and respectful and quickly became one of the most truly genuine people I had ever met.

How They Asked

Growing up I spent a lot of my time living at my grandparent’s house. My grandma and grandpa were always like parents to me and definitely one of the most important people in my life. My grandpa is watching us from heaven but my grandma is still here and always there for me and my siblings no matter the situation. My grandparents have a back acre behind their house with a big porch, a shed, a trail, and a big bridge that goes over the creek to the actual land. Well a couple of weeks before Mike had accidentally held on to a key to my grandparents shed on the back acre.

When he came over to my house he had convinced me we needed to leave for dinner even though it was only 4:30. He said he knew I hadn’t eaten all day and that he was hungry too so we left. Well on the way to dinner he told me that since we’re passing my grandparents’ house anyways that we should drop off that key!

I thought it was convenient and we might as well. Once we pulled in their driveway I unbuckled my seat belt to run into the house to give her the key. Well, Mike unbuckled his too and I thought that was odd considering I was just going to run inside then be right back. Well, he proceeded to get out and eventually walked around the car to my side and turned his back to me. I saw him fidget with something in his hands but was still puzzled and then thought something was up. He turned around and stuck his hand out and asked if I would come with him. Now my grandparents have a rocky trail that leads from the driveway all throughout the back around to the other side of the house to a gate. My heart begins to beat really loud and fast and I became extremely nervous…

The second we turned the corner of the house I saw twinkly lights and candles all along the bridge. This is when the waterworks came and I couldn’t believe what was about to happen. My tears kept flowing and when Mike turned around and looked at me and saw my teary eyes he began to tear up as well. We were about to walk on the bridge when I saw a chalkboard sign with a bible verse on it, “I have found the one whom my soul loves. Song of Solomon 3:4.” Then I heard leaves rustling and saw one of my close friends also photographers sneak out around the corner and start to snap photos. I still could not believe Mike was about to ask me to spend the rest of my life with him!

He stopped and turned to me and told me how much he loved me and how I was so caring and smart and beautiful and lots more but also that I was his best friend. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and opened a little black box revealing the most beautiful unique ring I had ever seen. Then I said yes!! Not only did he make the proposal perfect but he asked me in the most beautiful and meaningful place! He could not have done it better and this is so far the best day of my life. I can’t wait to be Mrs. Sam Sheehy and love him forever!
