How We Met
7 years ago, Reza and I were set up on a semi-blind date by a mutual friend (shoutout to Amin!) I say “semi” because we each got to see one picture of each other before the date.
This was before Instagram was huge and right about the time dating apps were taking off! Reza picked me up for our first date and I know it may sound silly but, he opened the car door for me and at that moment I thought “wow, this guy could be the one.”
Reza took me to lunch at a local trendy Italian restaurant and didn’t judge me for how much food I wanted to order LOL! for dessert, he took me to a traditional candy shop because he was told how much I love candy! He has been a gentleman and thoughtful since day 1 and we have been together ever since!
How They Asked
Although it may not look like it since I’m all dressed up, I was completely shocked and surprised when Reza proposed. It was the day after our anniversary and Reza, who is usually so romantic did not get me anything for our anniversary…not even flowers!!!
So, I was completely thrown off and the last thing I suspected was a proposal. Turns out he was so nervous and excited for the proposal that was happening the next day he forgot to get me anything for our anniversary lol!
Anyways, he told me we were going to his sister’s pinning ceremony for her nursing school graduation (thank you to all our healthcare workers!!)We arrive at the ceremony location, which apparently was at Pasadena City Hall even though she didn’t even go to school in Pasadena LOL but I was so oblivious I didn’t even question it!
Long story short, Reza left to go inside because we were running late and his sister’s boyfriend Amin (yes, the mutual friend who introduced us started dating Reza’s sister!) came out to park the car and drop me off so he could show me where to go.
I get dropped off at the front steps of City Hall. I start walking up the steps and when I look up, I see Reza standing in front of the beautiful fountain and gorgeous building with a “Marry Me” sign and rose pedals all leading up to him. I instantly burst into tears – I mean full on sobbing! I couldn’t believe he was standing there and about to get on one knee and ask me the question I had waited so long to hear.
I don’t even remember the beautiful words Reza said because I was in complete shock. It’s kind of like an out of body experience where you’re not really registering what is happening haha. There were a lot of people there that day and people started clapping and cheering for us, which was so sweet! But then Reza told me to “lookup” and I see my entire family and best friends watching from above on the bridge. I couldn’t believe it!! He knew how much it meant to me to have my family and friends there and it was like the cherry on top! It was truly such a perfect day and I will never forget it. Also, let’s not forget about the RING which was absolutely perfect!
We were supposed to get married this year and we’re basically done with wedding planning but unfortunately, we had to postpone until next year. I cannot wait to finally get to marry my best friend.
