How We Met: Will asked on the lake at our favorite spot…we are both huge lake people, we even call ourselves “lake bums” …that’s how we met at the lake. Three years ago I lost a good friend, Brandon, and have become extremely close to his parents and we have been family ever since. We have gone through good, bad, and hard times together but that has made our bond more unique, special and one that I value greatly.
My lake family and Will’s family live and go to the lake every chance they get, he grew up on the water, so Brandon’s family knew Will since he was younger. I have always wanted to meet someone who could share in the same likes, loves and passions that I had, I wanted the lake to be the place where I feel in love and got to share memories with a wonderful man. My dreams have some true!
The week of Sept 1st we moved in together and I was so excited and beyond thrilled that I was going to be able get to see my best friend everyday, until then we were living an hour apart…at the time I didn’t think I could be happier, well on Sept 5th lives changed and life got even sweeter than it already was!
I had always seen Will over the years around the dock, at the restaurant, or on the water but we had never formally met. Well that changed one Saturday afternoon at the end of the summer last year. Our mutual friends, Amy and Booby, were going out wake boarding but neither of us knew who would be in the boat that day, talk about paths crossing.
I got my stuff together out of my car, holding my wake board I walked down the stairs and to the boat where I saw Will and said ,”Hello it’s nice to finally meet you, I have seen you before but I don’t think we have officially met ” , I shook his hand and off we went to have some fun. From there I tried to match him up with my friend during the day. I mean he was a great catch and he was beyond being a gentleman, athletic, friendly, and not bad to look at ;) (I was in a relationship at the time, which was on the rocks and the end was near).
I started thinking to myself, wait a minute I can’t let this guy get away and then I started having feelings for him that I hadn’t had before for someone. After a day of wake boarding, surfing, hanging out, talking, laughing, dancing and listening to the band Bobby came up to me at the end of the night and said “Will just told me if he doesn’t marry you it won’t be his fault”.I smiled and that got me to thinking about my dream of “lake love” actually happening . From that day on my life changed for the better and it just keeps getting better.
Our days and chats started out as friends and we were support systems for each other when we were both going through changes in our lives…we both clearly wanted more but timing was off, but not for long. In the coming weeks our bond and friendship grew and my other relationship feel apart (luckily hehe). Things started to progress for us and soon we were in a relationship, one that I was proud of and extremely happy in. We have been best friends ever since and have not gone a day without speaking.
First time “offically” meeting
how they asked: Fast forward to Labor Day weekend, my forever best friend and love of my life popped the question. Will has now told me his original plan for the night: he was wanting to propose on the surf board together while our song was playing and as the sun was setting. Unfortunately he said that didn’t work out due to logistics and wanting to have all our friends and family to witness it and be around. So he said ahh I’ll do it tomorrow.
We were already going out for a dinner cruise with about 30 of our friends and family that night for what I thought was for Bobby’s birthday cruise, and to us this is not out of the ordinary. Three houseboats were filled with our friends and family and a dinner to die for, they parked the houseboats in front of our favorite spot on the lake and lit up the side of our favorite cliff with spot lights. I should have known looking back what was happening, but everything seemed like it always did.
I did notice Will was MIA and I kept asking, where is will? everyone kept saying he is downstairs looking at wake board videos, again to me this seemed normal. Well I went downstairs to join people on the front deck to listen to conversations and enjoy the view. Then I looked to my right and sitting off to the side talking to his buddies was my favorite guy. The night was a little bit chilly just the way I love a summer night… I thought it was great and smiled at him, little did I know my best friend was about to ask me to be his WIFE.
I was sitting in the middle of all of our friends and about to get a drink when I saw Will coming over from the other boat with a determined face/walk along with his smile. Before I could open the door he grabbed my hand and brought me back into the middle of everyone. He asked for everyone’s attention, got down on one knee, told me he has waited a year to do this, and asked me to marry him, that’s what I saw from the videos haha. I only remember hearing my whole name and then saw his mouth move and no noise…in my head everything went silent and time slowed down.
It was immediate that my heart sank and tears filled both of our eyes. I looked at him shook my head and said YES through my happy sobs/tears. I grabbed him as tight as I could and didn’t let him go for a good while. After what felt like forever everyone gathered around us clapping, laughing, hugging and crying.
An amazing night of pure joy and excitement soon followed. I have been on cloud 9 and glowing ever since I have met Will.
I look forward to our lives ahead of us and I have truly found my perfect match. My wish and hope for every girl/women is to feel the love and joy I now have come to know, its amazing knowing you are going to enjoy the journey of life with your true love, soul mate, and best friend. He did a great job at the proposal and ring! I could not be happier and I am so lucky in love!
