How We Met
I like to say that everything happens for a reason and the universe will give you what we need when you need it. This is quite true for how Joshua and I met. After a devastating heartbreak a year before, I was in no place to start a relationship with anyone and quite honestly, I had swore off relationships for a while. But, the universe gives you what you need when you need it. I had a full time relationship with the gym- in fact I was going twice a day. Every morning at 6 a.m. and every afternoon at 4 p.m. And every morning I would see this tall, bearded, brunette man at the gym looking at me. Instantly, when I saw him, there was a feeling in the pit of stomach, a feeling of assurance, like I knew he was the one for me. I tried to deny it, and shake off whatever I felt for this handsome stranger, but the more I saw him, the more I was interested. We would stare at each other for two weeks before either of us said something. Finally, on a June morning, he asked if he could take me on a date. Unfortunately, I was leaving for Florida that afternoon for 38 days. He waited those 38 days until I returned home to take me on a date. We talked everyday while I was going, exchanged pictures, got to know to each other and everyday while I was away I fell in love with the stranger from the gym. On August 6 2013, with a dozen roses in his hand, Joshua picked me up for our first date. I was so nervous I barely spoke on the car ride to the lakefront (lol). We had gelato and walked lakeside. We sat down at a park bench and as the nerves settled, I gave him a small shell from Florida, and he kissed me on half my cheek and half my lip (the most hilarious kiss now that we look back at it). I asked him to try again, and when he did, it was the most perfect first kiss ever. We ended up getting dinner that night, and on the car ride home, I knew he was the one. I knew I would marry him.
how they asked
On the year and a half mark of being together, Joshua and I decided to recreate our first date- going back to the same park bench we sat on and the same restaurant we ate at. It was a chilly January afternoon, and we walked back to the park bench where we had our first kiss. I didn’t know but his best friend and his girlfriend were trailing us with a camera while we walked to the bench. We sat down, and as we sat there, we talked about how our relationship has grown since the first time we sat here and how we both knew from the beginning that we were the ones for each other. As time passed, we continued to sit and talk about life and love and just as we were about to leave, he asked me to turn and face him. He said there was something he has been meaning to ask me since we first sat at this park bench (this is where I started to cry). He said that he has loved me since the beginning and that I have been the best thing that has ever happened to him, and using my full name, he asked “will you marry me”? and without a seconds delay I said (through the tears) ABSOLUTELY. Completely in shock and overwhelmed with excitement, I couldn’t see that the person hold a huge camera in front of me was our friends- who had captured the entire proposal on camera. He wiped my tears and we soaked in everything this moment had for us. It was the best day of my life.
