How We Met
It all started when I was 19. I met Garrett at our job 5 years ago. He was tall and blue eyed, ( my favorite traits) and let’s be honest here, we did not waist any time.
Before I knew it, we were going on our first date, and then our second, and third, and now we are engaged!
how they asked
Little did I know this was in the works for a while. Four months to be exact. This past July, he had asked my parents, bought the ring, and planned the proposal all under my noes. In my mind, we weren’t getting married for another 2+ years.
He had me convinced that we needed time to have fun, save money, travel, and enjoy the time we had. (yea, I know what you’re thinking, come on Ryan!) Well, I was completely ok with that. He was my best friend and I knew I was going to be with him for forever.
His parents had told me to plan for a trip to Charleston, SC to celebrate his sister’s 27th birthday. She is also a photographer and we were planning to take family pictures in Battery Park while we were there.
A week before the engagement, Garrett had asked me if I wanted to go shopping. Being a girl, of course I didn’t deny. He took me to some of my favorite shops where he picked ( yes ladies, HE PICKED) me this gorgeous burgundy lace dress to wear for the family photos.
ONE DAY BEFORE THE TRIP:
My mom wanted me to take me to get my nails done. The same day Garrett’s mom asked me to get my nails done. I figured we were just getting pampered for some awesome family photos.
THE WEEKEND OF THE “BIRTHDAY” TRIP:
I had never been to Charleston and I was beyond excited. I love seeing new places! Garrett, on the other hand, was not acting excited what-so-ever.
In fact, he was acting like he didn’t want to be there at all. I didn’t care. I was enjoying the beauty of Charleston, the shopping, the food, and celebrating the birthday girl!
That Saturday, we woke up, ate breakfast, and headed to the market to spend a little more time shopping before we had to get ready for pictures. When the time came, Garrett’s mom fixed my makeup. I curled my hair, and slipped on my new burgundy dress.
Garrett brought a nice button up and jeans. He wanted to make sure we complimented each other. By this time, I had, had a feeling that this would be a really good time to propose, but my parent’s weren’t there, and I know if he asked my dad, he would have required my mom being a part.
When we got to Battery Park, Garrett’s sister told us to come stand in front of one of the trees. We are really awkward taking pictures and his sister had told us to get close to each other. Garrett leaned toward me and whispered in my ear, “I am going to spend the rest of my life with you”. That’s when I knew this was not just a birthday trip.
I cried, and cried, and cried! That’s all I could do. Too think, I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!! Garrett slipped the ring on and kissed me.
He calmed me down, and asked me if I even said yes! IT WAS ALL A BLUR! Of course I said YES!! And when I looked up.
My parent’s….. my parent’s were walking up. And here come the tears, AGAIN!
He is now officially my Garrett and we cannot wait until OCTOBER 22 :)
