Ryan and Danielle
How We Met
I was going on a date with a guy from New York (awful personality) and we go to a bar in downtown Houston (where I’m from). While my date is in the bathroom I’m texting my brother to come pick me up from my nightmare of a date. I look up from my phone and see this guy (Ryan) starting at me and I can’t help but smile. He walks over to introduce himself and before I know it my date is walking back from the bathroom. To make matters worse, turns out Ryan was on a date too! We secretly exchange numbers (very hard to accomplish but we figured it out!) and the rest is history :)
how they asked
In short, being a wedding planner means that you know the in and outs of everything in the wedding industry. Having been in the wedding world for almost ten years, I’m pretty certain I’ve heard every proposal story you could possibly imagine. One thing I failed to realize is that one of those stories could be my very own. My boyfriend Ryan (now fiance yay!) explained that he had a one week business trip in Italy and that he wanted me to go with him. I didn’t think anything of it since he travels so often.
On April 29th we left from Houston to Rome and after 2 days in Rome we took a train to Venice. Ryan mentioned that when we arrived at the hotel we needed to get dressed quickly because there was a business dinner (prior the trip he told me to pack 1-2 dresses for formal events). After rushing to get ready we walk outside and find the gondolier waiting for us. We sit down and about 10 seconds into the gondola ride (as we’re going under the famous Rialto Bridge) he kneels down and pops the question!
I was in shock to say the least and as we continue the ride he confessed that the “business trip” was a front for his secret proposal. I remember thinking “OH MY GOD that proposal was so amazing. I wish someone would have photographed it”.
The gondola left us back at our hotel and as we’re walking Ryan points to man holding a camera. I jump back and immediately recognize him as Tomas, my parent’s wedding photographer. That was the moment that made my heart smile . Tomas had taken my parents wedding photos over 25 years ago and here he was standing in Venice photographing my proposal. Not only was he my parent’s wedding photographer, but a close family friend that had photographed me as a little girl, so having him there was icing on the cake.
We spent the rest of that day and the following day taking engagement photos with Tomas and exploring the city. Words will never me enough to explain how special and beautiful that moment truly was for me. I hope that if our story is accepted, it will show Ryan just a small part of how thankful I am for every thought and detail he made to make it perfect for me.
Since the engagement, we have planned our wedding and it will be at a vineyard in Napa, Ca on April 29th, 2018. Tomas will of course be our wedding photographers! :)
