How We Met
My fiancé and I have been friends for nearly 12 years. We met during high school through mutual friends. I remember a few of my friends were talking about this handsome guy named Kenneth, but I was the odd ball that did not know who this person was. Then I had seen him for the first time after a friend pointed him out to me. I was stunned. I felt like I could not make a move without doing or saying something ridiculous but I took a chance and introduced myself. As time went on, we grew closer as friends but it was never a serious relationship. We would both ask each other for help and he would take me home after school. We would talk on the phone for hours if were not hanging out with each other. I can’t remember a day without talking or seeing him.
Our first kiss was on February 16, 2007 and that’s the day we day we decided to become more than just really good friends. We have been dating for over 9 years and we have talked about marriage several times. We finished grad school together and got our doctorates as a couple. We have been through a lot together.
how they asked
The day after our 9th year anniversary we decided to spend a day fishing at the beach. We headed to one of our favorite beach spots which is about an hour drive from central Oahu. On our drive there, we got some coffee and lunch to have on the beach. When we arrived, he set up the fishing poles as he would always do and I went to set up our chairs and beach mat. We also brought along my four-year-old nephew. Kenneth had bought my nephew his first fishing pole and he got to catch his 1st fish. While fishing, Kenneth asked me if I wanted to take some photos.
As we were taking some photos of the scenery he had told me that he spoke to my parents and asked them for their blessing on our marriage. I asked how they answered and we were giggling at their responses. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, and I said YES! Little did I know he was taking photos of us while he was down on one knee. It was a picture perfect proposal.
