Aaron planned it all along- he asked me to go on a Sunday day-cation to the meadow near Mt. Laguna. This happened to be our “first date” location! I used to camp near the meadow and claimed this was where I would picnic with my husband, of which Aaron did not know of.
Bacon-Chicken Grilled Cheese, wine and pumpkin snaps on the backseat, we motored to the meadow. Once we arrived, I was completely concerned about setting up my picnic, while Aaron found it hard to contain his excitement for what was to come. The sky darkened and the sun began to set, Aaron suggested we go for a walk. As usual, I hopped and skipped along with excitement.
We followed the path and Aaron abruptly pulled me aside, sharing the beauty of Jesus in both Isaiah 52:4 and Song of Solomon 4:9. I couldn’t remain quiet throughout Aaron’s intentional and prepared words. I, realizing he was proposing, kept interrupting and asking him all kinds of questions, “Why does this sound like a proposal, who is here, do my parents know…” At one point, Aaron just said, “Will you please let me finish?” With conquest on his face, he got on one knee and completed the deed. Aaron engraved “Hephzibah” on the ring to remind me of “My Delight is in Her.” Stunned and quietly, she whispered “yes.” Once the ring was on my finger, Aaron pointed out two friends hidden in the bushes capturing the surprise proposal. The we took a few more pictures and greeted our friends. Newly engaged, we walked back to our picnic site, poured a glass of wine and rejoiced!
With the night coming to an end, Aaron had one more surprise up his sleeve. As they drove toward their next location, my best friend and his parents (who live out of town), sent me videos, at 7:45pm, as he planned to celebrate with me. They finally scooted to my friend’s house and surprised me with an engagement party of our closest friends and family.
“Thanks to all those involved in the process! This was the best surprise I could ever ask for!” – Jovanna
