How we met: Mason and I met in the eighth grade when we both attended Eastern Hills Middle School in Harker Heights, Texas. We were fast friends sharing our Fruit Roll-ups and Gushers at lunch every day. We stayed in contact the entire summer and talked on the phone every night before we began dating in September of our freshman year of high school. Mason asked me to be his girlfriend while we were in the movie theatres watching Napoleon Dynamite. We continued dating all of high school and were voted as the class’ Cutest Couple our senior year. We continued our relationship through college at Texas A&M University before both moving back to our hometown.
how they asked: Mason and I had just celebrated our 10 year anniversary in September. As an
anniversary present, he gave me a beautiful, framed map of the world with pins to put on places we have visited. He told me we would add our first pin soon. On October 13, I was telling Mason what a long day at work I had and his response was, “Pack your bags!” The only information I was told was to pack my bags for 60-70 degree weather and that we would be gone until Sunday.
Only 2 hours later, Mason arrived to my house to pick me up, holding the map he had given me for our anniversary. He told me it was finally time to place the first pin on the map, and when he pinned Venice, Italy, my heart stopped. We drove to Dallas that night to be on the first flight out Tuesday morning. After 15 hours of air travel and lost luggage, we arrived at one of the most beautiful, romantic cities in the world.
On October 17, the day of our proposal, Mason scheduled a romantic Gondola ride around the canals of Venice. We then took a private water taxi to San Giorgio Island where Mason planned to pop the question with the beautiful backdrop of Venice behind us.
I began crying the moment he took my hand and began saying sweet nothings in my ear. Neither of us remember exactly what he said, but we will never forget that perfect moment.
Mason left no detail of our proposal untouched, including a photographer that captured the entire thing. When we arrived back in our hometown, Mason insisted we needed to go to his parents house to eat dinner. Cranky and tired from the jet lag, I asked if we could go another night but Mason insisted they wanted to see us as soon as we got home. When we arrived to his parents house, I noticed a candle lit table in the backyard with pictures of us from the years. As all of our closest friends and family came out of hiding, my heart nearly exploded and was overwhelmed with love. Mason and my maid of honor had planned the greatest ending to a perfect proposal with a surprise engagement party. I will never be able to forget the love that I felt all week! My proposal story is truly one from a fairy tale and I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with the boy I have loved since I was 13 years old!
