Wedding Proposal Ideas in Anna Maria Island

How We Met

I swiped right on Johnathon on April 2, 2018. We were both totally over the dating scene and I was making some major life changes! I was switching careers, moving back home and purging people from my life who had been bad influences. On the other hand, he was killing it at his dream job and he had it all together! I really needed a best friend and I found that easily in Johnathon. He joked around with me and made me feel comfortable right away. We started video chatting every night…and we didn’t meet in person until a month later! He was so patient with me and truly made it a point to get to know the real me. For the first time ever, I felt like I could truly be myself with someone.

Proposal Ideas Anna Maria Island

Eleven days after we started chatting, he told me he was going to marry me. We were caught up in a whirlwind romance. We both knew what we wanted, needed and deserved in a future spouse and being together was as easy as breathing. He drove two hours round trip every single day from the day we met to come spend time with me and my family. My family loved him and he fit in so perfectly. When I finally met his family, they were what I always dreamed of for my future in-laws! Everything felt so right and we knew that we were going to be together forever.

How They Asked

Johnathon had asked my dad on Father’s Day for his blessing to marry me. I knew it was coming at some point, but he totally surprised me! John is a musician and he had a big concert coming up. It was formal and we had dinner plans afterward. I could’ve sworn I would be getting engaged that night! We had a nice romantic night, but nothing happened. We had been planning a trip to Anna Maria Island for several weeks. It’s my favorite beach in the area and I was looking forward to a chill day together laying out and swimming. We had lunch at a beautiful (delicious) restaurant and spent the afternoon at the beach. Little did I know that while I napped, the plan was in motion! We’d planned to go to a restaurant we’d never been to further down the beach that night.

We were getting ready in the rest area at the beach when John got a phone call “from his boss.” He’s a band director and band camp was coming up, so it was totally plausible! We got back in the car and he insisted we go walk on the beach. Being a stickler for time, I suggested going to walk on the beach closer to the restaurant so we wouldn’t miss our reservation but John insisted on going back to the other beach. I struggled to put my eyelashes on in the car while John was silently having a mini-heart attack about what he was about to ask me! We finally got out to the beach and as we were walking, John got quiet. We turned off into a small sand dune near the restaurant where we ate lunch and John totally shocked me when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was over the moon.

The phone call had been from my photographer friend Abby confirming the time and location of the proposal. My nap and my eyelash mishap had pushed the timeline back! Oops!

It was so special to have such a relaxing day in my favorite place with my best friend. After the proposal, we went to a restaurant in Tampa where my parents and future in-laws were waiting for us! We got married on November 4, 2018, just 4 months after our engagement. We are very happily married and just purchased our first home!
