Remy and Elijah
How We Met
Eli and I met June of 2013, after his Dad (Joe) hired me as an intern for the summer. Eli’s family owns a resort in the Outer Banks of North Carolina that welcomes interns from East Carolina University (where I was attending) every summer. I would soon come to find out that Joe had two kids around my age, Eli and Ellisa, who also went to ECU and owned/lived in the house that I would be living in for the summer. I guess you could say the first time I truly met Eli was when I was moving into his house! I came to the Island thinking I was going to have a wild and crazy beach summer as a young, single college student; boy was I wrong- in a good way. After the first week of getting to know Eli we shared our first kiss, soon followed by an awkward conversation of how we shouldn’t be doing this because we were roommates and he was my bosses son, we didn’t want to mess anything up… Well as Eli likes to tell me now, he started falling hard for me and would do everything he could just to try and get a slice of my attention and affection. He must have a lot of patience because I played it pretty cool for a while, as to not mess up the dynamic in the house. Well, playing it cool didn’t work for me because I found myself constantly wanting to be around Eli, no matter what we were doing. We started doing everything we could together, day and night, meanwhile denying it to all of our roommates and co-workers. days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months and soon enough we were both caught up in something bigger than the both of us. It was time for me to go back to school and Eli was getting ready to leave for Scotland for the next 4 months! We both knew that we were falling deeply in love with each other but neither of us knew what to do about it. Two days before I left, Eli took me up to his favorite secret spot in his hometown and asked me if I would be his girlfriend. One long trip to Scotland later, I had my man at my side and we have been inseparable since!
how they asked
Eli and I haven’t been on a romantic date in a long time because we have been traveling, working, or just spending our time with family. We decided a couple of weeks earlier that we would go out on a little date night before our employee Christmas party- Sunday, December 13th.. I was so excited to get dressed up and have some time to ourselves! On the way to our date spot, Eli stopped to pick up some champagne and roses. He then drove us to our spot that we always watch the sunsets on the sound side of the island. We walked out to the sand by the water and laid down a blanket for us to cozy up in. The water was still, the world was quiet around us and it was so peaceful. There wasn’t much of a sunset yet, but it was 70 degrees in the middle of December and it felt amazing. Before I sat down, I noticed that Caroline, a photographer and friend of ours, was on the other end of us setting up for a photoshoot. I pointed her out and told Eli to go over there with me to say hello.. We walked over and had some small talk about the photoshoot she was preparing for and she asked us if she could take some practice shots (HELLO, how did I not see this coming?)..
So we began to take a few practice pictures for Caroline until she said that was all she needed..I was ready to walk away, until Eli stopped and said, “well what if we try something crazy?” I was thinking “um, this is not our photoshoot sweetie..” but Eli continued to say “what if I did this?”.. and there it was.. he got down on his knee. While everything around us stood still, Eli spoke the most important words he could have said to me, yet neither of us can remember a single thing he said because..well.. this crazy moment was happening! I was in shock, couldn’t stop giggling, and was SO insanely excited.
We think I said yes, if not, he could read my mind. He placed the most incredible ring I have ever seen on my finger and we hugged tighter than we ever have before. The sun peaked out under the clouds and gave us an amazing sunset for our engagement session with Caroline as we celebrated with champagne and danced in the sand. Eli pulled it off.. it was the most perfect night of my life..and I get to have so many more perfect moments with this perfect man for the rest of my life.
