How We Met

We met in January 2009 when we were both freshmen in college. My maid of honor was actually dating one of his groomsman at that time, and they decided to meet up. A few months later, I added him on Facebook and he immediately posted on my wall! I depsited him the next day, and he asked for my number. After numerous text messages and phone calls, he finally had the courage to ask me on a date! After three months of going on dates and getting to know each other, he took me to Griffith Observatory and made it “official” by asking me to be his girlfriend!

how they asked

One thing you need to know is that when Kevin and I first started dating, he would tell me “fairytales” and use us as the main characters. After a few months of dating and storytelling, he asked me to be his girlfriend by putting all those fairytales together into one storybook, with the last chapter of that book saying “to be continued….” I thought, “What a romantic!” And after six years of being together, he’s still just as romantic- planning every date down to the last minute and still surprising me every way he can!

Now, the proposal…It all started about three weeks before the day of the proposal. He told me he would be going out of state for a little while on a business trip, and that he wanted to take me on a big date before he left. When the day finally came for our date, I had no idea what his plans were. All I knew is that we were going to a few different places- with him giving me clues prior to each one. Once we arrived at each place, he made us take a picture of ourselves. At our final stop, I put all the clues and locations together. He had taken me to four locations that day, each one meaningful to our relationship. He had started it with where we had our very first date, The Americana. And had ended it with where he asked me to be his girlfriend, Griffith Observatory. There, he walked me over to “our spot” and turned me around to overlook the city. Then, he handed me a storybook that he had been hiding in his jacket the entire time! It was the continuation of “our fairytale,” this time including tales from throughout the years. As I slowly read and turned each page, I kept thinking “Is he going to propose?”, “Is my family going to be here?”, and “Oh my gosh, is something going on?!” By this time, I was probably just slowly turning each page with thoughts running through my head instead of actually reading the words. I also noticed that people were slowly disappearing from my peripheral vision (which probably should have given me a bigger clue that something was going on). With people out of sight, I felt as if it were only me and him, which made it even more perfect. Once I finished reading the last page, he got down on one knee, and popped the question! I looked down at him, then looked up and saw our families and a few close friends! I cried a little (okay, maybe a lot…) and said “Yes!” It was the perfect day, and everything I could ever imagine in a perfect proposal!
