How We Met
Shakar and I met on eHarmony back in September of 2018. I had been using eHarmony off and on for a couple years, never actually going as far as meeting anyone in person. This was Shakar’s first time using eHarmony and I was his very first match. After matching, we talked online for a short while before Shakar asked if we could meet up for coffee. We ended up going out to dinner instead and talking for 3 hours. After our second date to the Kemah Boardwalk, he promptly declared he was deleting his eHarmony account because he didn’t want to see anyone else.
How They Asked
We bought the ring together at the end of 2019 so I knew he was going to propose, but I had no idea when or how. I thought for sure it would not be until April or May of 2020 so when it happened, I was completely caught off guard. He was at work on January 30th and just thinking to himself, “What am I waiting for?” He couldn’t come up with any reason to keep waiting and really just wanted to ask me to be his wife. He said that once he had picked up the ring from the jeweler, it made it very hard to keep waiting so he just decided not to wait anymore. We ended up going out to dinner when he got home from work and afterwards I had said I had energy and wanted to go do something else (for me that is unusual – usually I am tired by 9pm and want to go home and watch TV lol). So he took that as his sign that tonight really must be the night. We stopped back at the apartment and he was like “Let’s go on a walk, I know the place we should go.” And by this point it was dark and cold because it was January, but I was like “okay, I guess we can do that…” We went to the Water Wall in the Galleria and walked all around the waterfall with the cold water splashing on us and I said “okay, I’m cold. Let’s go home now” and he said “no, let’s go in the middle of the waterfall, I think you’ll like it” and I hesitantly said “okay, fine…” I started trying to take a selfie of the two of us and for some reason he wasn’t in frame, and I was looking all over wondering where he was and I turned around and there he was on his knee with the ring. He asked me to marry him and of course I said yes!
