How We Met

Mike and I met online four years ago. I remember that day like it was yesterday. After quite a few of failed attempts to meet anyone online, I signed on to delete my account. His email caught my attention and I remember being surprised about how much we had in common and I was impressed by his ability to make me laugh in one email.

I was so nervous to email him back but decided to give it a try. It was the best decision I ever made! We started off taking things slow but it wasn’t long until we were spending a lot of time together. Four years later and we are stronger than ever.

how they asked

One of my favorite things to do is run, and by run I mean run far. I love running ultra races and being on trails. The races I run can take anywhere from six hours or longer to finish. Mike has always been my biggest supporter. On September 24th, I flew out to Auburn, California to run a 50k with my brother.

Mike wanted to come with me but I felt the trip was too expensive for both of us to fly out there. ( we live in the East Coast). I told him not to worry about it, and that I would be fine because my brother was there and it was going to be a quick weekend.

I flew out Friday morning with so many mixed emotions. I trained hard for this race and felt confident in my ability to run well, but essentially I was running this race by myself with no extra support. I spent Friday with my brother and just playing the race over and over in my mind.

Fast forward to the end of the race. I ran a really great race and remember thinking I wish Mike was here to see this. We spoke just before the race and even though he was on the phone, he still knew exactly what to say to calm my nerves. I remember the last thing he told me was to call him as soon as I was finished and to run strong.

So I came across the finish line( dirty and sweaty) and I remember the race director and spectators clapping for me. As I was about to walk out of the finish line area I heard Mike call my name from behind. At this point, all I could think was, wow I must be really dehydrated because I am hearing things. I turned around to see Mike standing there. I was so shocked to see him that I go, “what are you doing here?” We still laugh about my comment but it was just because I was so surprise to see him.

He said he couldn’t miss the race. At that point I leaned in to hug him and to lean on him because I was so tired. The next thing I remember him telling me was that he has this crazy idea. He said this because one time he said to me I have a crazy idea, and I blurted out Yes! I thought he was proposing at that moment, and we laugh about it ever since.

Ok, so he said he had a crazy idea and then got on one knee, and said marry me. I just remember being in a state of shock. I couldn’t even get the words out so I just nodded and cried.

Honestly, it was the best day of my life. I thought we would be engaged soon but I never expected him to fly out and surprise me at the race. The best part was that not too many people knew except for my dad. It was exciting to hear how everyone was so shocked and excited.

He put so much thought into this proposal and for making it special for me.

Weeks later, I still think about the he proposed.
