How We Met
In 2012, I found myself daydreaming over an older boy who was friends with my brother in law and was, at the time, selling him an old BMW from the 80s. My sister Amanda joked with me, “one day, you need to date that Spencer boy.” And I blushed because I knew he didn’t even notice me, we had never even had a conversation or officially met! 4 years later, yes 4 years later, in 2016 we came across each other on Instagram and after weeks of finding a time when we were both free, we got together for dinner and the rest is history. Now we have been together for 4 years, are planning a wedding, and have the most beautiful 2 dogs you’ve ever seen. I’m so glad I live in a world where old 80s BMW’s exist.
How They Asked
Flash forward, 4 years later. It was our four year anniversary and an oddly warm day for November in Maryland. Being in the middle of a pandemic, our options were slim for celebrating our anniversary. We opted in for a hike with the dogs at a local nature center. The hike was extra special because we talked all about how much we love each other and how special our life is together. At one point, we even set up our camera to take pictures of our little family. He pulled me in for a kiss in front of the camera and I thought to myself “this is it. He’s going to do it.” But… nothing! We continued with our hike! I was completely surprised and a little disappointed because I let myself get so excited in that moment. Leaving our hike, we stopped for a cold brew at this darling little coffee shop. Despite the fact that he didn’t propose, I was so content with the day and ready to go home and grab dinner. On our way home we drove around a reservoir that we adore and spend a lot of time kayaking and hiking at. The view was gorgeous with the leaves falling and the setting sun glistening on the water. We had been to this place together a million times. He pulled over so he could take a photo of me standing in front of the view. We snapped a few pictures in front of the view and before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to be his wife. I was so surprised and I think I nearly fainted. He asked me to be his wife in front of a view we had enjoyed together a million times. I can’t wait to feel the butterflies every time we drive around the reservoir. We rushed to my sisters house to tell them the news. Everyone was more surprised than I was and they are so excited to officially have Spencer as their brother in law!
