How We Met
I had just graduated from college and was starting my first job. On our first day of orientation, the Chief of Staff had brought of recent graduates from the last 2-5 years in for a panel to help us adjust to our first job. THIS is where I first laid eyes on him. At the time, we were both dating other people. Time passed, I left the company and we both carried on with our lives.
Fast forward a year, our paths crossed again and Matt asked for us to catch up. He met some of my friends and me out for a drink, as we were in a weird transition from work acquaintances to more than than. From then on, we were inseparable.
How They Asked
Matt and I were on the way to meet some of our best friends for dinner in Old Town Alexandria. He parked a few blocks away, per usual as he is infamous for finding the farther spot. As we were walking, we stumbled across this small garden. He, somewhat abruptly, mutters, “Have you seen this garden before, I’ve heard people get engaged here. Let’s walk through it.” I thought the comment was odd but agreed to walk through. As we neared the gazebo, Matt grabbed my hand tighter and turned me to look at him. Immediately he dropped down on one knee and I was in COMPLETE disbelief.
Of course, I said YES, and we grabbed some pictures with a photographer he had hiding in the bushes. Following this, he has a reservation at the restaurant where we had our first date. We agreed to just enjoy dinner and celebrate together before calling any of our family and friends.
To my utter disbelief, we walked into the restaurant and all of our family and friends had flown in from all over the country. It was literally the best moment of my life, and I could not believe all these people pulled it off without me finding out. I spent the rest of the best night of my life surrounded by my loved ones.. and I cannot even imagine what the wedding will feel like!
