R.D. and Meg
How We Met
On Septermber 27, 2013, I met R.D. at the rehearsal of mutual friends. I was Emily’s Maid of Honor, and R.D. was Brandon’s groomsman. I had heard lots of good things about R.D., so I was looking forward to meeting him. The next day, at the reception, R.D. caught the garter, and I caught the bouquet! And so our fairytale began…
Later that night, we went to dinner with some other members of the wedding party. As we talked and got to know one another, the converstation soon turned to Auburn football. I mentioned that I was planning on going down for the weekend with my friend Abbie, and he asked if I would like to go to the game with him.
We had so much fun at the game, and I was already looking forward to our next date. Over the next few weeks, he made many trips to Birmingham to see me, and we went to quite a few games together.
Soon we found ourselves spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with one another’s families, and I knew then that he was someone I wanted to have around at Christmas the following year.
On our first vacation together, we traveled to Pasadena to cheer on Auburn in the National Championship game. He later revealed to me that at Santa Monica Pier he fell in love with me.
During the following months, our love for one another continued to grow, and we knew that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
how they asked
In early September, he told me that there was a Tigers Unlimited Banquet in Auburn on September 19th that he wanted to attend. As we walked in front of Samford Hall, we noticed an easel with a canvas on it. He said, “I wonder what that is” and started walking in that direction as he held my hand. When we got to the easel, I looked at the canvas and saw every picture we had ever taken together. At the top it said “Meg Griffin – Will You Marry Me?” Of course, I was completely shocked, and immediately, my eyes filled with tears. He took my hands in his and told me all of the things he loved about me. My heart has never been more full! At 6:00 p.m., with the chimes of Samford Hall ringing in the background, he got on one knee and asked me to be his wife. In his hand, he held the most beautiful engagement ring, which he helped my dad to make. Before he could even get up, I was bending down to kiss him and saying, “Yes! Yes! Of course!”
And out of the bushes popped my sweet friend Faith and her husband Will. R.D. had contacted them ahead of time and asked Will to be there to photograph the proposal.
We spent the remainder of the weekend sharing the exciting news with our families and looking forward to beginning wedding planning.
I am so thrilled that I will soon be his wife and can’t wait to spend forever with him!
