How We Met
Justin and I met in the fall of 2014 while we were both in law school. I walked into our Secured Transactions class on the first day and sat next to him. About 2 months passed and we hadn’t really talked. One day, I walked into the classroom and found a note on my desk. I thought it was from one of my friends so I kind of yelled: “Who gave me this?” My friend said it wasn’t from her, so Justin raised his hand and said, “It was me.” He wrote, “Nice binder. #fishlove” because my binder had some really colorful cartoon fishes on it with a big heart in between the fishes. We passed the same little note back and forth until he gave me his number because we’re running out of space to write. (I still have the note in that same binder)
We became friends and stayed in the friend zone for months. Our relationship transitioned without me even noticing. I can’t pinpoint the exact moment when it became serious, but I’m thankful our bond was built on friendship first. He became my study partner and we got through law school together. We passed the dreaded bar exam and have taken on so many other obstacles side by side. He’s already the best partner in life.
how they asked
I had been dying to go to Greece since way before I met Justin. I had a picture of the little houses in Santorini as my phone background on and off for years. I started looking at cruises last December and tried my best to convince everyone. We booked our trip in March and I was beyond excited I would be going there period, but even more excited I was going to go with him. Justin and I had been together for 3 years and we had talked about getting married, so I thought that a proposal was possible. I tried not to let myself think about it too much because I didn’t want to get my hopes up. One of the cruise destinations was Santorini (the one I was the most excited about). That morning, I got ready and put on flip flops since we would be doing a lot of walking. Justin saw me and told me I should pack my heels for the pictures. That was a little hint and I thought, “OMG! Today might be the day.” I tried my best not to think about it and just enjoy the day.
We walked around a lot and Justin kept walking solo to find good picture spots. He usually takes pictures of me, so I didn’t second guess it. He then told me to follow him because he found a good spot. I walked down and literally said, “This is perfect!” He gave me my heels that he had been carrying in his backpack for the pictures and told me to put them on.
Then, he started taking pictures of me and afterward gave the camera to my dad so he could get a picture of us – a “couple pic.” When Justin stood next to me for the picture, he put his arm around me and I could feel his heart beating! I got nervous again and just hugged him. Then, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I immediately said, “Yes, baby. Of course.” I couldn’t believe it and still can’t. He really thought of everything! We just got back from our trip yesterday and I couldn’t be more grateful to be engaged to my incredibly thoughtful fiancé.
