How We Met
Colton and I met last spring at our local church and was quick to hit it off. I am a photographer in the Northern Nevada area and was photographing a wedding at the church Colton attends and is on the pastoral staff there. We got to know one another a little better when I was invited to attended the young adult bible study/ get togethers on Sunday. After three months of hanging out together with friends and his family I started to think I would really like to date him, if he felt the same way about me. Turns out he liked me too and on June 9th of 2016 he asked me to be his girlfriend. We have spent 13 months dating and pursuing God together.
how they asked
On July 15th Colton and I had a “date night” planned for a few weeks and was excited to be able to spend the day with him as both of our schedules have been pretty busy. We started the day by him picking me up at my house.
I got in his car and there sat a card labeled “Card 1” as I opened it he greeted me to our date day and gave me hints on where we were off to next. The hint was along the lines of it being one of my favorite coffee places on the way up to Lake Tahoe. It was Dutch Bros coffee, my fav! When we arrived a guy came out to our car and took our order and asked for our names, we placed our order and when we got to the window to pay they handed me another card! A card and chocolate (Reese’s) I should add!
It was labeled “Card 2” and it congratulated me on finding the next card. It read that we were going to be heading to lunch in Tahoe but I was to guess the place with the clues he had given. I figured it out and we were headed up to Base Camp Pizza in Heavenly, CA right on Tahoe. We arrived hungry for lunch, when the waiter sat us there was a pretty, sparkly bag waiting for me on the table. Inside there was yummy smelling goodies from my favorite scent shop and card #3.
I was so giddy and excited that he went through all this to surprise me at each stop. The hint on card #3 was about a cold, yummy treat and my guess was Coldstone! Yessss! We arrived and a guy came up to me and asked if I was Raquel, I answered yes, in shock and he handed me card 4 and we got to bypass the long line to make our order and enjoy. The hint on this card was that we were to be heading up the mountain the express way…being up the gondola before with Colton, I knew it was that we were going up to the top to look at the AMAZING view!
It was about 4:15 when we jumped on and started for the top. When we got to the top he told me I had to find Card #5, but this one was harder and was hiding in a good spot. I found it on a post that looked right out to the beautiful lake. Inside read all things he felt and loved about us and that he wanted to ask me a question. As I turned to him he was on one knee asking if I would marry him (insert joyful crying emoji here). The box held an amazing, sparky ring that had my name ALL over it, it now lives beautifully on my ring finger for all to see.
After the proposal we celebrated with some of our closest friends over dinner on the water. I couldn’t of asked for a better, more perfect day.
