How We Met

I first noticed Jonathan in high school at a basket ball game concession stand that we both volunteered to work at for our school’s golf program. He walked in with a big, puffy coat on and a grin on his face. I remember helping him put Powerade in the cooler, thinking “he’s a cutie patootie! Why haven’t I seen him before?” Throughout the evening, I was drawn to his playful personality and his quirky way with words. For instance, someone ordered a Frito chili pie with no cheese and when I asked him to make it he said “so they just want it au naturel?” My friend, Autumn, and I turned to each other and started cracking up.

Luckily, Autumn and I’s friend happened to be friends with Zach, one of Jonathan’s closest pals. So we all started hanging out together. After not-so-subtle hints from me and a nudge from his friend, Zach, Jonathan decided to start driving me to golf practice after school. We started golfing together and figured out we really liked each other. Now we love each other and are getting married! So PTL for high school golf and cooperative friends.

how they asked

Jonathan and I had been together for 8 years before getting engaged, so I had a while to dream up my “ideal proposal.” Naturally, Jonathan blew my expectations out of the water when he planned a surprise trip for us to Canada! I had a feeling he would propose while on the trip, but didn’t want to get my hopes up. For the first few days, I remember thoroughly scanning his pockets for a little square-shaped box with my name on it. It wasn’t until the 4th day when we went on a hike that I noticed a square shaped bulge in the side pocket of his backpack. I knew something was up when I went to get a granola bar out of the bag and he quickly said “I’ll get it!” When I teasingly asked what was in the side pocket, he said “uh, nothing.” Such a Jonathan response! We passed by plenty of scenic views that I just knew he would pop the big Q at, but thankfully Jonathan held out for a secluded area by the most beautiful lake I’ve ever seen. I don’t even remember exactly what he said, but I do remember the words “happiest” and “marry me” and immediately felt like a million bucks. BEST DAY EVER.
