Raelee and Roper's Rodeo Proposal
How We Met
On June 30, 2014, I got a friend request on Facebook from someone named “Roper Hill”. I sat and debated whether or not to accept it, thinking “This has got to be a fake page, nobodys name is ‘Roper Hill'”. After some contemplation, something in me told me to accept it so I did. And shortly after, I got a message from him saying “Sorry you looked familiar” (which I later found out was just a way for him to talk to me) We hit it off right away and it turns out that we had a mutual friend who Roper worked with that had mentioned my name. (Thank you to that guy!) A few weeks after we had been talking daily, he decided to come into the gas station I was working at at the time to meet me. He was so nervous that he brought his friend in with him. He bought a 30 pack of beer and I was thinking “Oh Lord, what have I gotten myself into?”
I fell in love with Roper almost immediately. I had never met a man who adored me the way he did. I had never been spoiled and treated with so much respect before, and I had never met someone who looked at me the way he did. Every chance he got, he was studying me and recording me when I’d start to laugh (That’s still his favorite video, even though I hate it). We started dating a few months after we met.
how they asked
My fiance rides broncs in rodeos. It’s something he’s very passionate about and I have always loved to watch him. The first time he told me he loved me was on August 1, 2014 at a rodeo in Wolfe City, Texas. I was so in shock that I literally could not get words out. My mouth dropped and I just looked at him searching for something to say. (Embarrasing) So, since rodeos have always been something that we’ve done together, on July 3rd, 2015 (the day before my parents’ anniversary; so special!), we went to a rodeo in Cooper, Texas. My parents have never been a fan of rodeos so I thought it was kind of strange that my parents and so many friends and family were there, but I brushed it off. Roper was strangely more nervous than normal and did his best to stay away from me in the stands. He was up to ride and came out of the bucking shoots riding strong. Unfortunately he only rode for about 6-7 seconds (I really thought he was gonna get the 8) and when he got back up, he started walking to the stands where I was sitting, and the announcer said “I guess he had other things on his mind, he’s making his way to the stands” and they started playing some sappy old love song. Roper gets to the stands and his best friend Garrett hands him a little grey box and Roper looks up at me and says “You know how much I love you and I want you to be my partner and companion pass at every rodeo, will you marry me?” I, of course, start bawling, and once I can finally shake my head yes, he stands up on the stands, throws his hat in the air and grabbed my face for a big sweet kiss! I cried for almost an hour and I couldn’t stop shaking because I was so excited and emotional.
