How We Met
Rudra and I met back in college. We’d both hang out with the same set of friends but barely talked for the longest time. When we did start talking people assumed we were dating when in reality we were just friends ( talk about sparks )
What started off as a friendship slowly grew into something much more and the following year on Dec 3rd, 2015, outside my father’s office on the side of the street, a bouquet of Lilies in hand he asked me to be his girlfriend.
Fast forward to 2018 we hit a roadblock and we broke up. Those 4 months apart taught us a lot. Through that time Rudra had made a vow to himself that he would give me my space but come what may, in a year he would get me back. As fate would have it, we crossed paths 4 months later at a New Year’s Eve party in the city. Toward the early hours of the morning, we got to talking and all I could see was love and hurt in his eyes. It then dawned on me that I had made the biggest mistake pushing his way and if I didn’t do something about it then and there, I would lose my best friend forever. I asked if he wanted to try to be “us” again and little did I know that was everything he was hoping to hear from me. A year later we’re happily engaged and I cannot wait to begin the next chapter of our lives with my best friend and partner. We made it and I now believe that fairytales do exist!
How They Asked
We had planned a winter getaway for my birthday (which also happens to be Christmas) and New Years to Thailand. The day after my birthday we chartered a private yacht with a few of our friends to celebrate. I had no clue he was planning to propose. But guess what? I got seasick and he had to postpone his plans. Wise decision on his part, wouldn’t you say?
The following week we were scheduled to arrive at Koh Tao my soul instantly fell in love with that tiny little piece of paradise. That evening he planned to propose against a beautiful sunset but his plans were foiled again. We ended up having to climb up a bunch of rocks and by the time we got to the top, ankle swollen and sweaty, the sun had set.
So finally on 31st Dec 2019 along with our buddies, we ventured out to catch the sunset yet again but this time in a beautiful beach club on the island. I was busy admiring the stunning sunset in front of me and when I turned around, there he was down on one knee and asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. I was so stunned that I ended up walking away for a second because my brain hadn’t processed what was going on!
It was there, against the most wonderful sunset and sounds of the waves that I said yes! That will forever be one of the best memories I will hold.
