How We Met

Sean and I both attended the University of San Francisco for undergrad. During our freshman year, we both lived in the same dorm on campus (Hayes Healy is the best dorm on campus if anyone asks). To be honest, neither of us can remember the first time we met! Sean and I had a ton of mutual friends during our freshman year, but we never really hung out on our own at first. He lost his phone at the end of our freshman year, and I gave him my number for his new phone. We quickly started texting consistently, and he nervously asked me out on a date. I was so nervous for our first date that I kept on delaying the beginning of the date, and an afternoon coffee date was foiled when we showed up to a closed coffee shop. Thankfully, the sushi place was open next door! Sean ordered the dish called “Nemo found” and we bonded over our mutual love of Disney/Pixar. 6 and a half years later, here we are!

how they asked

After college, we lived in San Francisco for a few years before moving to Boston to attend a Physician Assistant program. We both set up clinical rotations in our hometowns (me in San Jose, him in Denver). Sean came to California for New Year’s Eve, and we had a great time except for the fact that our planned trip to Napa Valley got canceled due to car troubles. Two weeks later, Sean texted me to help my aunt surprise me for lunch in San Jose. He wanted to know which restaurant I wanted to go to “so he could tell my aunt”. I agreed to meet my aunt at Starbucks for coffee before we grabbed lunch, and Sean walked out of Starbucks instead of my aunt. The next day, Sean woke me up early and told me we had plans for brunch with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

We took a driving tour to a few places that were important to both of us (the University of San Francisco, our first apartment together in Daly City, and a coffee place that we both loved) before he stopped at Battery Spencer in the Marin Headlands.

He led me up to the viewing point for the Golden Gate Bridge and we chatted for a bit overlooking the bridge. He got on one knee and pulled out my grandmother’s ring, telling me how excited he was to continue our lives together. After that, we drove up to Napa Valley for our missed wine tasting tour!
