How We Met
Nick and I are from the same hometown. He is a couple years older than me. His best friend and my best friend growing up we’re brother and sister so when we would spend the night at their house, we would pass each other in the hallways…Little did I know back then that I would be marrying him now. They are our best man and maid of honor as well. :)
how they asked
One morning I opened the fridge and saw two apples sitting on the top shelf with a note that read: PACK YOUR BAGS, WE ARE GOING TO THE BIG APPLE (How cute!) We had everything planned out pretty much down to the hour, so I didn’t think this trip would be when we got engaged because I knew everything that were going to do. SOMEHOW, he was able to surprise me…Once we arrived in NYC, the first activity on our list was a helicopter ride over the city! This wasn’t just any helicopter ride, it was an OPEN DOOR helicopter ride. Talk about an adrenaline rush. Neither of us had ever flown in a helicopter so we were pretty stoked. Once we got there we met with the crew, watched a safety video, and got strapped up for the ride.
They told us nothing could be in our pockets and I couldn’t even wear my little studded earrings- this instantly told me that we definitely weren’t getting engaged because where could he store the ring? We rode over the city with our feet dangling out of the helicopter and it was absolutely breathtaking. The views were UNREAL. We were headed back to the port, Nick hugged me real tight and we shared a kissed. We couldn’t really talk but he mouthed ‘I Love You’. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world to experience something like this with the love of my life… little did I know, something huge was about to happen.
Once we landed, the other passengers including Nick all got unbuckled and were out of the helicopter first. It was during this time that one of the flight crew managed to slip the ring back to Nick without me even noticing. Of course I was the last one in the helicopter..I finally got unhooked and as I was walking out of the helicopter, Nick grabbed my hand and asked for a picture, then whispered in my ear. I saw this huge banner roll out- “Rachel- I Love You! Will You Marry Me?”. I screamed YES! He put so much thought into the proposal and designed my ring which is why I love him so much. He definitely made me feel so special and loved!
