Rachel and Jordan
How We Met
Jordan and I met in April of 2015 when a friend of mine brought me to a Bible study that Jordan was leading. Jordan claims that he didn’t notice me until I interrupted him during a group discussion. Later, Jordan and I happened to get paired into a prayer group where we got to talk one-on-one and get to know each other a little better. From that day on, we spent pretty much every day together that summer… and the rest is history!
how they asked
For a week or so, Jordan had been telling me that on May 13th we were going to go on a fancy date to celebrate my graduation from my masters program. Looking back, I know that this was his way of making sure that I dressed nice for our proposal, which I really appreciated! As I was getting ready that evening, I walked out of my bedroom to find a note outside my door. Once I saw my name written in Jordan’s handwriting, I knew exactly what was happening. The two cameras on the floor facing my direction also hinted at the importance of the moment. In the note, Jordan wrote about how incredible our first year together had been and how it was time for me to put on that navy dress I had been saving (I’m a big planner, so I had already picked out what dress I wanted to wear for our proposal). After I quickly changed outfits, I walked downstairs to find my brother, Cooper, waiting for me. When I got to Cooper, he read me a letter that he had written to me expressing his love for me and Jordan as a couple. After Cooper was done reading, he walked me out of the house, down a trail, to my mom where she read me a letter she had written. Last, but not least, my mom walked me to my dad where he was waiting for me with the final letter, which included his blessing for me and Jordan to take the next step in our relationship. Once I finished reading his letter, he walked me back to my house where Jordan was waiting on my front porch. Once the front porch came into view, I could see Jordan standing in the middle of rose petals. Seeing his face after this journey was so exciting- I was so ready to say “yes” to my soon-to-be fiancé. It was at that point that my dad turned to me and said, “This is where you have to go alone, Rachel”. The pathway was covered with red and white rose pedals, and before I knew it, I was looking into Jordan’s eyes, hearing him ask the question I’ve only dreamed of. I could barely form the word “yes”, but I got in a few emotional nods. As both of our eyes were filled with tears, we kissed and embraced each other.
And Jordan wasn’t done with the surprises. Immediately following the “yes moment”, Jordan’s whole family (who had flown in from Minnesota) surprised me by walking out onto the porch. After taking a ton of photos to commemorate the occasion, we all grabbed dinner together, and everyone swapped stories about the lies which were told in order to make the surprise possible. The entire night was absolutely perfect and one that I will never forget!
