How We Met
Jake and I grew up less than 30 miles apart but never met until I moved back to my hometown after college. My plan was to only stay in my hometown over the summer & figure out where I wanted to move to more permanently by fall, but my plans all changed after meeting Jake. Thanks to a long list of mutual friends becoming mutual friends, we met while hanging out at a local bar on 4th of July in 2013. I was immediately drawn to this handsome, tall, blue eyed boy and decided to message him on Facebook the day after hanging around him at the bar the night before. A few days later we went on our first date to our small towns local burger joint and the rest was history! We dated for 7 years before he finally got down on one knee and it was always a big running joke with family & friends of when Jake was finally going to ask!
How They Asked
3 dogs, 1 cat & nearly 7 years jam packed worth of memories later he finally popped the question during our 6th trip to our favorite little island in Mexico that we go to each winter. Me being a photographer myself, he knew that at some point during the trip I would want to dress up and take a few photos and that was going to be his opportunity to get down on one knee. We were vacationing with another couple, so when I handed over my camera to my friend to take a few shots of us, Jake suggested that we get some over by the water. Since I’m a photographer I always direct Jake on what to do during our photos, like to walk slowly & giggle at me or to kiss my forehead, etc and while going through different poses I felt Jake squeeze me randomly and take in a deep breath when I was pulling away for our next pose, that’s when I knew something was up! He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him all while my friend captured it on my camera! Afterwards we walked the beach to one of our favorite ocean side bars for margaritas & tequila shots to celebrate and watch the sunset.
