How We Met
When Graham and I met it was the furthest thing from love at first sight. But little did I know I would meet the love of my life at 15. We met in chemistry class my sophomore year and I never really had any interest in Graham. He was constantly flirting with me and doing anything to get my attention. The class always joked with us about liking each other but we just ignored them and went on with what we were doing. We became really good friends over the semester and loved each others company. When he was finally brave enough to ask me out on a date I told him I couldn’t because I was going to the mall with my sister (that was a lie). I still didn’t like him that way and just wanted to be friends. Then summer came and we stopped talking. I didn’t really think about him anymore as I had my eye on another guy. But Graham was still determined to win me over. School started again in August and we were both scheduled in Mrs. Meadows math class. We both smiled at each other the first day but didn’t talk. He sat with his friends and I sat with mine. A couple weeks into the semester his table of desks got in trouble for talking and the teacher moved him to my table. Holy cow! What are the odds of this happening? We picked up right where we left off but this time I had feelings for him too. We began talking for hours a night on facebook where he finally had the courage to ask me out again on another date. This time I said yes. Our first date was to see Final Destination 4 and I still remember that day like it was yesterday. After dating a couple of months he officially asked me to be his girlfriend on October 9, 2009.
how they asked
We planned a trip to Savannah with two of our best friends for a little weekend getaway. We had never been to Savannah so we were super excited. I was dying to go to Forsyth Park, so once we got checked in to our hotel we started the walk to the park. I was telling Graham, Megan, and Clay how pretty the fountain was and couldn’t wait to see it and they acted like they had never heard of it before.
We finally got to the fountain and took tons of pictures and then headed back towards River Street. We walked around for a few hours and then went back to the room to get ready for dinner. Graham got sick and I thought it was because he just had too much to drink but in reality his nerves were getting the best of him as to what was about to happen. We enjoyed dinner and then the boys had to “run to the store” to grab something and me and Megan went to relax in the room for a minute. They were actually going to the fountain to make sure everyone was in place for us to come. We were all planning on going to the fountain to get pictures after dinner anyways so when the boys picked us up it was no surprise as to where we were going.
Graham was in such a hurry to get there before it got dark, which is not like him because he hates pictures, so I knew something was up. Once we got there and were walking towards the fountain Graham handed me a penny and told me to make a wish. Grahams dad was super sick in the hospital, so I wished for him to get better. Graham wished to spend the rest his life with me and then turned and got down on one knee. He said a ton of sweet things to me and then asked if I would marry him. Of course I said YES! There was a little old man playing a guitar and singing to us and a photographer was hiding behind a tree. As soon as Graham stood up our families came running from behind the trees. The day couldn’t have been more perfect.
